Show and Tell Storytime.

Patreon pledgers! I’ve got a set-up ready to go this weekend for the monthly Live Drawing Session. I am going to hold it this weekend. Check the activity feed for more info.
For the longest time I had trouble pegging down Amanda's interests. She hasn't had a lot of on-screen room that wasn't an antagonist role. I started thinking about her anger, her sadness, and the way she seems like she constantly feels like her insides are boiling. I started thinking "maybe Amanda has some stuff to say. Maybe she has stories to share." So I gave her a notebook.
“So I gave her a notebook.”
I don’t know why, but I found that genius.
Also, I wonder how many of the other kids know that her middle name is Marie.
“I don’t know why, but I found that genius.” Aww, I did too!
In which we find out about how she got returned to the orphanage…
so far we’ve only had this strip where Heather tells about the Sandersons

Weird, it’s already colored, I’m not criticising you I’m just not used to it being colored the first time I look at it.
This one was a much quicker draw than usual because of the crayons.
AH! now we find out what will finish out Amanda’s slow-bake process* before the Meeting at the orphanage with Andi.
i agree with Too Old To Be Cool, that the King and Queen were probably the first adoption parents, and my take is that they got her after they had the two boys, probably because one of the parents was humoring the other when they said “Gee, Honey… I wish we had a GIRL, too” but in the long run having Amanda was a fad and they got tired of her always complaining about their “Precious Little Angels”… IE the boys played their parents, just like Truck played Trunchbull… and I’ll also bet that they played up the “but WE’RE your REAL KIDS, not HER…” angle so the parents finally had enough and “dumped her” at the orphanage, she may or may not have ever known that she was put up for adoption even earlier than that! and she is thinking that if even her “REAL mom and dad don’t want me… What’s Wrong with me?”
PS. @Dave: do the orphans that are the bully’s, tend to be the ones that were put up for adoption AFTER they were old enough to understand the difference? and that the ones that seem to be the victims of said bully’s tend to be ones that either never knew their parents, or were put up earlier than they could easily distinguish the difference? IE that the orphanage is the only “Family” they ever knew?
*what Dave referred to as “Amanda needs a little more time to bake before that meeting transpires. Her insides are piping hot, but her crust needs to get just a bit more golden and flaky.”
I don’t know where I read it but I was under the impression they adopted Amanda as a baby and then had biological children. This happens a lot to people who have fertility issues (or even some who strongly want to adopt).
I was under the impression that the brothers were the biological children of her adoptive parents. It would explain why they were favored over Amanda.
The bullies have some issues the others either don’t have or that the others manage better, yes. Selkie, for example, mostly remembers her life pre-surrender but doesn’t lash out anywhere near as much as Amanda.
So I’m guessing that this is the abridged version of how she got given back. Poor baby.
Ooh man, I wasn’t expecting this. I’m glad (though dreading what’s next) because I really wanted to know what/how/why she got dumped after being taken (I mean we got hints from what Heather said about the family had “real” kids (gods how I hate that term) who didn’t like her). And boy do I want to lay hurt on the kind of people who would adopt a kid and then take them back like they were a dog from the pound who wouldn’t stop chewing the furniture.
And now we have the page on which many will realize that Amanda is just as human as the rest of the cast.

Ah, true, true. Poor kid. 🙁
Dave- just thought you’d like to know for archiving purposes that two pages of Andi story-time are untagged (and Jessie too)

Oh, Amanda, Amanda you poor girl.
You need therapy so bad, sweetie. I’m glad you have an outlet to express yourself in the meantime.
Seriously, though, writing is one of the best outlets there is. It will also help her process some of the things that have happened in a way that just laying there being bitter won’t. I think this notebook is going to turn out to be a very good thing for Amanda.
I just hope that Selkie actually understands the underlying point of this story since she knows about Amanda being brought back to the orphanage. If Selkie teases her about her story, things could go from bad to worse.
I think from what we’ve seen of Selkie in this comic that she wouldn’t do that, I don’t recall any instance of her being malicious.
Well, that escalated quickly.
