You ever know those people whose mental filter on what should and should not be said just doesn’t work quite right?

I have a piece of additional Selkie art to share today! I am doing a Tabloid-themed project for Finals Week, and for one of the “stories” I decided to include Selkie, by way of Google Image Search and photo-manipulation.
If you’re curious about the rest of the project, I shared a rough draft on the forum. ^^
Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.
I love the image manipulation! It really captures Selkie’s spirit – you did an awesome job!
I’ve also been meaning to drop a line and tell you that I love this comic. At first I was a little uncertain, but your storytelling ability really hooked me and now it’s on my list to check every week. Thank you for creating and sharing this wonderful story.
Aaaw, thank you. ^^
The image manipulation is adorable! But I thought she was allergic to potatoes? 🙂
Oh god, I’m like Jessie A LOT. Like, a lot a lot. I try not to be, but it kind of happens…heh heh.
You didn’t finish the Secret Commentary; all I can see is “Secret Director’s Commentary: Jessie’s”.
Oh, blargl. Comicpress wins again..
Thanks for informing me. 😀
You’re welcome :). Incidentally, I have to ask…corporate investigation? Was Jessie involved in a terrible altercation?
A similar foot-in-mouth situation, where the person escalated to the corporate office.
Hmm… I just noticed the mouse-over commentaries, and when I went back to read them all, I noticed the commentary of comic #46 (?p=238) seems to be cut off: “…where Dragonheart 2 holds a small place amongst the “
Thanks for the heads up!
Good Grief! I’ve NEVER noticed the secret comentaries before! (I guess that explains the term “secret”.) Only problem … I probably don’t read as fast as some others & they disappear a tad too quickly. Any chance you could give me another second or two? (My eyeses ares getting olds.)
If you hover the cursor over the comic and keep it in one place, the hover text will stay there as long as you need.
I adore the fact that she is an Albino. The Woolmart Employee, that is!! You have such a lovely cast of fun characters, each one with their own natural quirk – just like in reality. I cannot get over how precious Todd is – he’s a born Father, and so attached to Selkie already. They’ll do one another quite a bit of good, no doubt!
Goodness, this story has me hooked, and I cannot wait to see it develop more!! Please do keep up the marvelous work!
Wah! Real!Selkie is just as adorable as the comic version! She’s so impish! 😀
That image is effective: cute but with a distinct whiff of strange…
Jessie’s filter settings could be better, but at least she realizes she may have crossed the line from curious to rude. It’s a fine distinction that some never learn.
When they ask, tell them its a racial characteristic. They will shut up, and its true, and it’s me helped get away with being, like, translucent parchment skinned and unable to tan in the past, so its good for all kinds of stuff.
Mind if I borrow that irl? It’s way better than “I don’t know I just don’t tan…”
Yes. you may borrow it, go right ahead. Your tanning capability is probably somewhat connected to who your ancestors were. Also, I wonder if Selkie would change color in the sun or not?
Uv rays don’t really penetrate that far underwater…it’s a matter of just HOW aquatic her ancestry is, I imagine.
KYA~! Real! Selike is precious! 😀
Hm. Personally I would have gone with “It’s something with her genes. Nothing horrible. A few allergies, the skin, and a couple of other minor things. She needs to stay hydrated a lot more than most kids, for instance.”
No lying, and no need for extra-long elaboration or obvious evasion.
Or just go the Invader Zim route and simply say “it’s a skin condition.” 😀
Bravo, Todd. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best. Well done.
Aww! Cute photo manip of Selkie. 🙂 And yeah, I’ve known folks who just don’t know when or what to say tacktfully. The girl should stop before she hurts herself.
Selkie = The cause of a great deal of akward conversations, even if ever so cute.
@Dave ; Bravo on the Photo Manipulation. My only complaint is I see French Fries, and Selkie Can not eats them. They are a starch, and she requires delicious meats.
Oh God that photo manipulation is so freakin’ cute!
…Chicken fries, yum!
How did you do that photo manipulation?!?! That was BRILLIANT!!!
If you make a boy of selkies species can you name it Ryan (it’s my little brothers name and he absolutly loves this story) 🙂
I have to admit… That photo manipulation scared the CRAP out of me… Unnatural photos of people usually do. That’s why I don’t go looking through the tabloids.
Another corporate investigation? So she’s done this more than once? You would think she would keep her mouth shut after the first time
Great photo! I can’t believe i missed this strip! I dunno how either.
That Selkie (“Tabloid-themed project for Finals Week”) is really my favorite. I’ve come back to look at her more often than any other.
Lacking mental filter? Yeah, I’ve got one of those in my chorus class.
…
I just realized what that kid’s reaction to Selkie wold be, lol! “Why are you blue? What’s up with your eyes? What happened to your hands? Why do you put extra S’s on everything? Are you feeling okay?”
Omg that photo you made of Selkie is SOOO cute!! It’s really her! <333 I'm very early on in this comic but I love it to death already <3 Can't wait to continues readings 🙂
Thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying the comic so far. 😀
