Brown’s kind of already bending rules quite a bit as is.

New fan art added to the gallery from Victoria!
Thank you! π
Also, for those interested, I’ve been following the Kickstarter page for Mighty No. 9 (basically a Mega Man style game made by many of Mega Man’s original creators), and they currently have an open to the public poll to pick the top three design options for the companion and co-op partner character, Call. I personally love A and B. π
Oh hello again, actual backgrounds. How've you been?
The “they wouldn’t understand” bubble points at Pohl, but I think it’s being said by Agent Brown. Also, it’s nice to get out of that hospital room, even if we haven’t left the hospital yet. Love the Selkie-on-the-beach fan art!
Maybe he’s now seeing things from agent Brown’s point of view and he’s answering his own question. There’s a bit of a pause between him asking and coming up with his own answer, hence two speech bubbles.
OK, I guess not, since you’ve re-pointed the bubble π
Also loving the fan art! π And suddenly … I find myself liking Agent Brown. It’s nice to know he’s not just a stuffed shirt. His “plausible deniability” still leaves him an awful lot of wiggle room, though. I wonder if there’s going to be an inspection of some sort at the school soon?
Yeah. I love Agent Brown now, and am going to put in a good word with my boss at the Federal Department of Paranormal Diplomacy to see if we can’t transfer Brown over here. We’re a lot more lenient in the FDPD. Of course it comes with mark of justice spells, but at least they’re not mark of unfortunate sticking to protocol.
In related news, I love and hate Dave now for being able to keep us on our toes about Agent Brown for so long.
WAIT! NO! IMPENDING PLOT TWIST! THIS IS A FRONT! DON’T YOU SEE ALL THE SIGNS?! BROWN IS MONOLOGUING!! MONOLOGUING!!! RUN! HE’S A VILLAIN!
“Tensei”?
Selkie’s native language, I’m assuming.
Good Guy Antagonist. Told you! π
I’m surprised at how casually Agent Brown is interacting with Phol. It’s like they’ve known each other for a long time.
I have a strong suspicion Agent Brown and Pohl have a longstanding friendship underneath their veneer of bureaucratic decorum. Something tells me they were possibly even the first interspecies contact, and it was events stemming from that that have led to the current tense situation between the Sarnothi and humanity.
Yeah. Something more than the usual “Odd Couple” relationship, but definitely having that aged feel:) Agreed!
Regarding Mighty No.9, I voted for C myself…
Besides, if there’s any kickstarter that needs more love right now, then it’s the one for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. That series is awesome and some of those stretch goals would just be amazing.
I’ve been eyeing both of those Kickstarters, and I’m not even an avid gamer. The voiceover + animated cutscene stretch goals on the Shatae game would be really awesome, but it’d take one heck of a last-minute push to see those come in before the cutoff. At least it’s going to get funded, though!
I backed Shantae, too. Was glad to see it make the initial goal, thought it wouldn’t for awhile. :3
“Brownβs kind of already bending rules quite a bit as is.”
I’ll say, those bunny ears certainly broke the rules.
And Agent Brown’s popularity goes up by a minimum of 1.
The Smiths will still go on thinking of him as a jerk, though…
That’s one of the sacrifices people like Agent Brown have to make. Goes with the job.
I think that after some reflection Selkie’s family will realize he couldn’t tell them any more than he already had.
LANGUAGE GEEK BOY ARRIVES!
First: panel 5 contains an unnecessary apostrophe in “Smiths”.
Second: look at that sentence “Echea Mr. Smith ‘sanguri.” This implies several things about Tensei.
1: It contains a lot of short idioms, such as “echea”, for complex concepts, such as “for what it’s worth”. This implies that Tensei is a language of economy – perhaps because it’s harder to hear underwater? Or is it because it’s a much older language that’s had time to develop these idioms? Hmmm…
2: It contains glottal stops, if the apostrophe in “‘sanguri” is anything to go by.
3: It contains many useful prefixes and suffixes for use as prepositions, if “‘sanguri” means “I agree with”.
4: I believe it is an inflected language – one which has changeable endings for verbs and nouns that denote things like case, tense, and number. At the very least I see nothing resembling a pronoun in this sentence, which makes me very suspicious.
LANGUAGE GEEK BOY HAS SAVED THE DAY AGAIN!
*sidekick Linguistics Girl hops in!*
Language Geek Boy, it indeed appears that this language has verbs conjugated depending on multiple factors including tense and subject and more! The presence of such short phrases is also intriguing.
I applaud you, good sir and madame, for you are among the highest classes of geek. Fly your geek flags proudly! π
Oh my god I thought the exact same thing when I read that line! This has me wanting to learn Tensei
*One-Who-Sometimes-Constructs-Languages-For-Aliens raises a hand* I noted the apostrophe as well but assumed it was a different way of forming the sentense which would include adding possessive for the purpose of addressing and stressing who you are speaking of, but then it kinda looks like there is a space lacking between Smith and sanguri, which could instead indicate that by putting them together you are addressing who’s opinion you are agreeing with, in this case. There are so many different ways it could be interpreted to define the finer points of this little look at a translated bit of Tensei:)
You just won major story telling points. π I could see the lead up to this- not a bad thing as all you used was expression, body language and character interaction to “tell” me.
Also- points for not painting Agent Brown as a bad guy and pointing out the issues with a classified job. It’s not personal, it’s political. Agent Brown is very good at his job.
We’ve seen Tensei before.
Loving the development of Agent Brown. He was really coming off as just an asshole for a while, but now we see his depth. And his competence — Pohl’s trick with the note didn’t fool him a bit. As suspected, he’s letting Pohl do the rule bending for him, maintaining his own deniability.
Should technically be “the Smiths”, not “the Smith’s” – that’d be possessive.
And, I guess these two are pretty allright fellas.
Oh Pohl you so cute when you pretend you have no idea what’s going on.
P.s. that’s the last time I’m calling him by name… I’m going to take my cue from Brown, he will be known as Doctor Bunnyman from now on. π
Awww, look how cute Pohl looks when he got caught! I like this. This is nice, yes yes.
Quick question is Sarnothi the name of the Mer-people or the name of the Periwinkle skinned Mer-People with Tensei being the name of the Olive Green Mer-People. Or does Tensei mean something like “the speech” And I’m reading too much into different color phases.
Though I can’t help wondering with his medical degree, house in the suburbs, and family Pohl had a slightly less eventful immigration in comparison to Selkie’s people (immediate family) who seem to come off as flat out refugees.
“Tensei” is the name of the language. “Sarnothi” is the name of the people.
lets back up a second.
some how Mr Trunchbull knew she was venomous, that inplys he knows more then the classified nature of the situation then he should. so how he know?
