Amanda needs to remember that Pohl is not dumb. He IS a doctor, after all, for two different species of people.
Also, as an Echo himself, he probably knows quite well how difficult it is for young Echoes to not practice even if they aren’t supposed to be doing that.
I am pretty sure he is going to give her a safe space. “when I was a young echo, you couldn’t keep me from practicing in secret” – and then give her some safety tips.
Actually I’m thinking he means frequency as in radio signals, and its Amanda’s guilt that’s making her understand him differently. English might be his second language, but Pohl’s a doctor: he will know how to say “How often do you _”.
We’ve seen the visual of lines to represent echo before. It makes perfect sense that what works for Selkie hasn’t been TUNED for Amanda.
“How *frequent* your Echo use is” implies that he knows dang well she’s been practicing in secret, though. I hope Freya is right about the safe space and the safety tips!

Wonder if he can actually do that, or is bluffing. Mind you, the reaction all but confirmed it…
That’s freaking smart
Amanda is cooked.
Caught.

Maybe.
