“I cans respects thats.”
That’s awesome, and full of truth…
Though I find that bacon doesn’t really add anything to high quality cuts of steak, and prefer to eat them separately. I just hit a point of diminishing marginal meat returns and I get more out of eating them apart than I do together.
One of the reasons bacon is paired with filet mignon is that it lacks sufficient fat content on its own so the bacon adds some of that back to create a good balance of flavors.
Also if you’re making steakburgers it’s a good idea to chop bacon up and put it in them for the fat content. Steak is very lean on its own and since fat is flavor country, you need some kind of fat to counter it.
People love bacon and as the notes say Bacon is Love, Bacon is Life, as a home taught cook, and a decent one, I say Fat is Love, Fat is Life. It’s all about balancing flavors.
Seriously though, I agree with the french in that case. You guys cook damned good and while I don’t have a french cooking focus, I give respect to where it’s due.
And yet, I still prefer to eat the filet mignon with the bacon separated.
It’s a bigger meat flavor payoff to me.
I understand preparing it that way, though.
There’s no way that handful is the entire bucket. I don’t think she got all of them — she just touched everything in the top layer, then took the top layer. And the touching part was just to rile Amanda.
“Selkie nicked all the wings and refused to share”
Mari CLEARLY states that Selkie did NOT take all of the wings. There is an entire bucket of wings. Selkie has a small plate. Not even a large plate, a small one.
Andrew, you may want to give the page another look over.
To be fair, Selkie did deserve to get yelled at before. The problem here is that they still see each other as competition for the family’s affection, which is sad and understandable. Amanda’s not the bad guy, she’s got attitude problems.
Not so sure its competition for affection anymore. Honestly it seems their relationship has improved. There is still competition but I think its more like their normal rivalry. And I think both of them are being like normal kids and testing their boundaries.
“Attitude problems” – She’s an unrepentant bully who continues to insult Selkie at every opportunity. Yeah in my eyes she’s the bad guy right now. Until she demonstrates some improvement in behavior I will absolutely continue to see her that way.
You either want ACROSS the house, or ‘CROSS the house. If you’re going to shorten the word by getting rid of one or more letters you use the apostrophe to replace the missing letters.
And before the “it doesn’t matter” people jump on me, yes it does. There is a difference between cant and can’t, between wont and won’t, between were and we’re. And there’s a difference between cross (angry) and ‘cross (spanning a distance).
While I’m a Descriptivist myself, I would have to agree with the nitpicking — because a comic fits into the general pool of “in need of better grammar than the average forum post.”
Basically, while it’s fine to write however you care to write, you need to pay attention to what your writing is trying to achieve (you learn the grammar and the logic, then use rhetoric to choose the best tool for the job at hand). If your writing is getting in the way of the readers’ comprehension, even for a second, you need to consider whether that slight lapse is important to some aspect of your writing — if not, cut it out. Mercilessly.
People are unlikely to stumble over ‘cross, but somewhat likely to stumble over the secondary meaning of “cross” (because our brains do that, it’s just the way brains parse language). So unless there’s pressing reason to maintain this form, stick with the more normal, recognized format.
cmon it doesnt matter because its not plain text, its speech bubbles, and in case you didnt know context is what gives words their meaning, not grammar or an apostrophe, those are for scientific and legal papers where a mistake can cause problems, on regular people talking grammar doesnt matter, check this out
This is one hell of a feast, huh?? They keep adding more food. Cookies, Chicken, Bacon Rosette, meatballs… idk, seems like a lot to me. and the meal hasnt started, even.
These are just the appetizers. Christmas dinner is most likely a ham or turkey with stuffing/dressing and veggies. Honestly they would have to cook a huge meal since Todd can’t have meat and Selkie can’t have veggies.
+ you know – Holiday feast and all – with10 people. And Grandma and Grandpa both like to cook (or they both wouldn’t have a few fishy recipes memorized already). Grandma said she had the meatballs and grandpa had the wings. Throw in if any of the adult kids cooked, and yea – tons of glorious food
Meatballs, chicken wings, and Bacon Rosettes? That’s a lot of pretty substantial foods for just snacking. I feel like any one of those could be the main course of a big meal; they’re not going to have any room for dinner!
i guess its sorta grandma´s way to substitute for the cookies+sweets selkie can´t eat….lets face it, christmas is the time we´re all stuffing ourselves with LOTS of deliscious things, many of them sweet. selkie would totally feel left out if there were only ‘normal’ stuff for the humans.
btw, did someone else notice that amanda forgot(!) all about the cookies in her quest to harass selkie? i´m looking forward to her complaining about having to eat vegetables when fish-face doesn´t have to.
I just love these little glimmers of Selkie and Amanda being able to get along. This went from bickering/tattling to civil so fast one would almost think they were siblings…
I get the feeling, even after their relationship has mellowed out and become stable there’s always going to be a bit more teasing than the typical sibling relationship. They started out on opposite sides, even when they meet in the middle their sisterhood will reflect the beginning.

“Fat is Life” (le gras c’est la vie) juste happens to be kind of a meme here in France. I couldn’t agree more !
Then I’m meming multiculturally! Excelsior!

Glad to see Amanda’s efforts to get Selkie in trouble failed this time. Score one for team good guys!
Selkie nicked all the wings and refused to share, I don’t see her as the good guy in this scenario.
There’s no way that handful is the entire bucket. I don’t think she got all of them — she just touched everything in the top layer, then took the top layer. And the touching part was just to rile Amanda.
She didn’t. She just took the ones she touched and Amanda is exaggerating a bit.
“Selkie nicked all the wings and refused to share”

1. She didn’t take them all
2. Amanda is an unrepentant bully towards Selkie
Therefore yes Selkie is the good guy
To be fair, Selkie did deserve to get yelled at before. The problem here is that they still see each other as competition for the family’s affection, which is sad and understandable. Amanda’s not the bad guy, she’s got attitude problems.

So Amanda basically wants Selkie to save her bacon… 😉
Pahahahhaha
Thank you! New comic and fun comment made my night after work.
You’re welcome! I aim to please.
“mmmm… bacon”
Amanda is going to get some serious constipation.
Nitpicking again.

Xactly.
Nitpicking your nitpicking.

It’s not a shortening, it’s an attested (if archaic and probably dialectical) usage of “cross”. It’s absolutely correct.

A panda walks into a restaurant. Eats shoots and leaves.
Punctuation would determine if this is a diet, or a murder mystery.
Two thumbs up! Down with grammar pedants!
or y’know, dave could had just accidentally missed the “a”
coming from a brand of dog food, i’m not entirely convinced 😛

The veggie of the day: Carrots.
It’s the first Christmas with a second kid. Of course they went overboard. Its like the law of the grandparent or something.
It’s the first Christmas with *either* kid. So, first Christmas as grandparents! Overboard is understandable…

XD Nice try Amanda. But no dice. Good to see that Selkie didn’t get into trouble just for a little get back.

Nah, Amanda knows what Selkie+veggies equals. I doubt she wants to see puke on Christmas Eve…
qwll yeah, but that doesn´t mean she won´t bitch about having to eat vegetables herself.

I have a strong feeling Selkie is going to have a major tummy ache, that or slip into a food coma. I know I would if I ate all that food. 😛
We demand a recipe for Bacon Rosettes.
WES DEMANDS ITS. 😉
(… pluralses doesn’t work too well with “we”. Though I guess Wesley could demand it, too.)
Shut up Wesley 😉
In an airtight box.
