I remember her. She’s in the documentary “Trekkies.” She got a job in a print shop. Each of the people there had nicknames for each other. She objected to a nickname and when asked what other title she could be called she said; “Well, I AM a Commander in Star Fleet!” So now, she’s called “Commander” in the company.
You know i think I just got my answer on why Tommy is in a cheep ass public school rather then some privet tailored uniform affair. Expensive ass law suit against the old school.
Just checked back, and it was only shown on Friday and today’s strips.
So, around the house or out with friends? I’m guessing the latter. Todd would have some interesting friends to go with his past.
I don’t think Selkie could make her dad any prouder at that moment. I know if she was my daughter when she got home there would be a twenty pound salmon steak waiting with some eel sashimi on the side.
I’m guessing plan B was something like my idea to take it public either at the PTA meeting, upload straight to Youtube and email everyone about it, or both.
This is better. At least so far.
What I want to know is exactly what was sacrificed and lost. Were the Trunchbulls friends with the teacher that was fired? Also, is Truck telling the truth about “I didn’t start that!”? His father was just yelling at his son for lying to him, so I wonder if they both know for certain that whatever happened before really wasn’t Truck’s fault initially. Because his father’s not accusing him of lying about that. I wonder if we’re finally getting a peek at the real reason why the Trunchbulls are so very overprotective.
Until proven otherwise, I’m going to assume that he considers the other kids to have started the fight because they told him no or otherwise didn’t do what he said.
Maybe, but it’s interesting that the father has shifted from being upset at his son for lying to being more upset that he gloated about whatever happened.
My guess would be that he’s calming down from his initial burst of rage and thinking about the wider implications: “Not only has my son been hitting people and lying to me, he has a completely skewed view of what the last school situation was about and oh God what have we done it was all for nothing.”
And no, he hasn’t accused Truck of lying. He’s actually done worse, from Truck’s perspective. In saying “because I thought I was protecting you”, he’s taking it for granted that Truck was lying.
Given that he has just been presented evidence that Truck will lie through his teeth in order to get away with his behavior, it is reasonable to assume that he was lying back then, too.
Once you understand that from Truck´s perspective, the others started it because they did not do exactly as he ordered them to, you understand that he admits that exactly the same thing happened at the previous school – meaning that from anyone else´s POV, he did indeed start that, too, and fooled his father into helping him get away with it.
Posting it on Youtube would be a bad idea. That happened to the “Star Wars Kid” and his parents ended up suing the family of the kids who did it and won. Granted, that probably was Selkie’s plan B.
It’s always good to have a plan B. I often like to have an outline for a plan C, D, E and an idea for an F it at all possible… life has just thrown that many curveballs. Good thinking ahead, Selkie.
That might be what Selkie thinks is happening. Me, I think Jessie is whistling because she is “not noticing” Selkie using her cellphone to text Todd.
Jessie may need to be officially unaware, for keep-her-job reasons, but she’s a smart cookie with a rather long list of reasons to be very much on Selkie’s side here.
That may well be, because if Jessie “saw” Selkie with the cell phone, she’d be duty-bound to confiscate it … and there goes Selkie’s evidence. So, Jessie may well be intentionally turning a blind eye to what Selkie’s doing.
Is it bad that as a teacher I honestly think professor Trunchbull is being too quick to agree with Selkie’s evidence? I understand it works with the insight into his character that we’ve gotten. I just have no faith left that parents will not just decide to be jerks even with evidence given against their child.
Are you suggesting that “an eight year old girl fabricated detailed video and audio evidence in the course of maybe an hour” is a prospect that ought to be seriously considered?
Not that it should but I have literally seen parents ignore actual evidence including video evidence and still claim that it’s everyone’s fault but their kid’s. It kills my soul more than a little bit lol
Definitely know what you mean, unfortunately. I’m an aide in a special ed class, and all behavior is *our* fault–even if we’ve had a student for less than a week, and everything the student is doing (the student I’m thinking of was violent and had a hair trigger–the word “No” seemed to be one of the triggers) has been documented at other schools.
I’m actually a little disappointed in Todd. I understand Selkie’s big grin. Her enemy is getting his.
And I can understand Todd being happy that Truck has finally been caught.
But it has been my experience that mature adults, when seeing a kid getting a severe ass-chewing by his parent – even when well-deserved – don’t usually stand there grinning like a jackass eating briars.
If Trunchypoo takes it to the next step, and pulls Truck over his knee to give him the butt-whoopin’ he deserves, is Todd going to be grinning at that? Selkie will, but will Todd?
Parents, at least good parents, don’t generally show enjoyment at a child being punished.
When the kid being punished has hospitalized their daughter, caused HER to be suspended and gotten away with it, and the father of said kid now being forced to eat crow has called their daughter a liar and worse, I have no doub there would be a shit-eating grin involved.
Very much this. I wouldn’t be surprised if Todd demanded an apology from trunchbull for the way he insulted her right after she was assaulted by his son.
Not only did Truck put Selkie in the hospital, not only did Dr. Trunchbull not believe Selkie’s story, he went so far as to say that Selkie is completely untrustworthy, now and forever, because she is a Sarnothi… he said Sarnothi “process information in ways that are wholly incompatible with us” and by “us he meant “humans”. He said “Her version of the story could well be a ‘Sarnothi truth'”, or in other words you can never trust any Sarnothi to tell you the truth. That made me see red, and I’m just a guy reading a comic; Todd must have been white-hot with rage.
So now, Professor Trunchbull has just had his nose thoroughly rubbed in the reality that Selkie was telling the truth all along, and Truck was lying all along. Complete vindication and complete victory. Yeah, a grin is a realistic thing here.
I process information in ways that most other people don’t.
It doesn’t mean my perspective is wrong (I do take the point of view of others into consideration probably more often than I should, though. This was clearly evident when I was interning in a Gen Psych class).
The professor is just as guilty of processing information in his own unique way, and ignoring the points of views of others; he’s too convinced he’s right. Likewise, Truck has internalized the same thing but in a different way; because his father has never been wrong, it stands to reason that Truck can never be wrong. If someone things that he is, clearly they’re just crazy, and anything that happens to them is their own fault for not doing what Truck told them.
See, as angry as I get at the both of them, I can still see things from their point of view… I hate when I do that.
I’m still right, though. =D
Additionally, Truck has damaged the Professor’s credibility, and therefore his ability to enforce his will and perspective on others. In his point of view, that’s even worse than lying and raising his hands against a teacher.
I actually feel sorry for Truck because of whatever punishment shall be inflicted upon him from his parents.
unfortunately, I’d have fallen into the same “Do as i say, don’t do as i do.” trap as well… That said, I’m glad that I’m not in this same situation, nor have the kids to even have that possibility…
Addendum to my last comment: it’ll be interesting to see if Todd can follow his own advice to “win graciously” when dealing with Trunchbull in the future.
Now Truncypoo is the one BSing. Protecting your kid is moving them to a different school if one isn’t good for them. A lawsuit like the one he pulled is revenge.
If Trunchbull genuinely believed Truck was the victim of both bullying, which from Truck’s attitude means “people were telling me No,” and from the administration trying to cover it up and turn Truck’s “acting out” in response to bullying into a history of bad behavior(or which he had little or no knowledge), the lawsuit makes sense. Like that kid in Australia I think who was frequently bullied by another child smaller than him(by among many other things hitting him and pushing him) until he got mad and retaliated , so the school expelled him for being violent.
That’s why I think Trunchbull says what he says “Do you not realize what we SACRIFICED. what we LOST, because I thought I was protecting you” That makes it sound like his fight against the administration of the previous school was really difficult and taxed the family personally and maybe financially and professionally. All because they (wrongly, and out of love for their child) believed that Truck was a victim of a school failing to protect its students and then trying to cover it up, which is a very common narrative lately.
It’s probably pretty awful to suddenly be confronted by the evidence that everything you’ve struggled with for a long time was based on a lie from the very person you were defending.
well now mr Trunchbull see’s what his son is but well miss’s Trunchbull believe it and is selkie going to get suspended or worse for taking a cell phone to school because the principal is a dumbass and I know a story I heard about a kid that did something like selkie did just look up this to people you want to know Special-Ed Student Records Bully, Gets Charged With Disorderly sorry for no Link.
this is amazing so much
Re: the Star Trek shirt. Casual Friday?
Maybe Todd had jury duty?

Foolish fool, there is never a need to explain a Star Trek shirt.
Agreed.
Seconded…or is it thirded?
You know i think I just got my answer on why Tommy is in a cheep ass public school rather then some privet tailored uniform affair. Expensive ass law suit against the old school.
He’s. Wearing. A Star. Trek. Shirt. To. The. School.
That is right in so many ways…
Haha! I just realized he was wearing the star trek shirt. So cool.
Just checked back, and it was only shown on Friday and today’s strips.

That would be your Plan B, something tells me Selkie’s Plan B would be simple and direct – and involve sharp teeth.
I thought she’d mentioned Plan B earlier – it would involve scaring Truck into submission using her natural gifts.
Until proven otherwise, I’m going to assume that he considers the other kids to have started the fight because they told him no or otherwise didn’t do what he said.

LARPing. The explanation is LARPing.
It’s always good to have a plan B. I often like to have an outline for a plan C, D, E and an idea for an F it at all possible… life has just thrown that many curveballs. Good thinking ahead, Selkie.
So what is happening in the center panel? Is Selkie turning off the volume prior to texting? Is she recording the whistling?
I think she turned off the sound so that Jessie doesn´t notice she´s texting.
That might be what Selkie thinks is happening. Me, I think Jessie is whistling because she is “not noticing” Selkie using her cellphone to text Todd.

could you do a bonus comic or info chart on what all truck has cost his family due to his lies, just want to see how much of an accident he is
Revelation that your son is a lying git: Priceless.
I FREAKEN CALLED IT ON THE TREK SHIRT! but no one commented on that…………………….my comments sucks
Your comments do not suck. I just didn’t feel the need to comment at that time.
AAAAAND Todd comes to school wearing “Command Gold”. I never mistook him for a redshirt, but still. The visual is priceless!
Actually given the uniform design it would be an Operations Uniform. Worn by engineers and the security team.
I love it when the kid out-plans the father 😀
I’m actually a little disappointed in Todd. I understand Selkie’s big grin. Her enemy is getting his.

Oh, I really, *REALLY* hope he does just that. 🙂

It’s a valuable skill to see things from the other guy’s point of view. Never tell yourself otherwise.
And this is why I’m not a father. I would never have told Selkie not to gloat because I would be gloating like all hell myself.
unfortunately, I’d have fallen into the same “Do as i say, don’t do as i do.” trap as well… That said, I’m glad that I’m not in this same situation, nor have the kids to even have that possibility…
Remember the exchange between Todd and Trunchbull over the phone. Naturally he’s not going to be *un*happy about the way things fell out…
My guess is Todd’s grinning because he’s anticipating serving up a heaping helping of “I told you so” to the Professor.
Addendum to my last comment: it’ll be interesting to see if Todd can follow his own advice to “win graciously” when dealing with Trunchbull in the future.
This script is great!
As long as it isn’t red…
I love that Selkie had a Plan B and surprises Todd with that fact. She is such an adorable evil little mastermind.
Now Truncypoo is the one BSing. Protecting your kid is moving them to a different school if one isn’t good for them. A lawsuit like the one he pulled is revenge.

Haha, at least Todd isn’t wearing a red shirt. That would be ominous foreshadowing on the most blatant of levels.
well now mr Trunchbull see’s what his son is but well miss’s Trunchbull believe it and is selkie going to get suspended or worse for taking a cell phone to school because the principal is a dumbass and I know a story I heard about a kid that did something like selkie did just look up this to people you want to know Special-Ed Student Records Bully, Gets Charged With Disorderly sorry for no Link.
One does no NEED a reason for wearing a Star Trek shirt. Wearing a Star Trek shirt is reason enough.
Be grateful it’s not a *red* shirt—you know what happens to guys on “Star Trek” who wear red shirts.
Selkie: “Plan B: We nukes the site from orbits. It’s the onlys way to be sures.”
Kick ‘im in da nuts and run
