-EDIT-
So, the website went down for a huge chunk of the day. Everything is all back up and running, sorry for anyone who had to postpone their bi-weekly Selkie fix. ๐ I also noticed that a few of the comments for the most recent strips were lost, but I have the auto-generated emails still that the comics make, so I can re-post the lost comments for everyone.
ZeHosting did a good job getting the website up ASAP, and they were nice enough to offer a proactive month credit for the downtime, so I gotta give props to some good customer serviceing on their half. Stuff happens, no matter what business you are in. Good to know that they worked diligently to fix it.
Due to the downtime, if anyone sent an email, the selkiecomic.com address may not have gotten it, so my apologies, but if you sent me an email in the last 24 hours or so, I may not have gotten it, so please resend.

Ooops…
Trouble brewing, I Guess.
Oh well, Butterflies : 1, Bunnies : 0
0-o…wow
Ah, poor Amanda. I know people like that– their entire self-image is based on their perception that they’re *better* than someone else.
School together? oh that can’t possibly end well.
….Amanda is so much like my sister. Rofl Selkie “Help me carry this? =D” Niiice, rub it in her face! XD
Now I have mixed emotions. I’m happy Selkie got to rub it in Amanda’s face, and I still don’t like her, but it can’t be easy living without parents or your own home, and I feel sorry for her there.
Aww, poor Amanda!
Panel 5 is great hahah
Cheese and rice!
Do I sense a revenge plot line in the making?
LOLS!!!
I’m not at all sure if Selkie is “rubbing Amanda’s face in it” – people tend to think of other people as having similar feelings and motives to their own, and Selkie is, remarkably, a nice person. (Look at the last two panels of .)
If Amanda had gotten adopted, and she asked Selkie to help her carry her bags, I think Selkie would have helped her.
And panel 5? I think I read that 4 or 5 times before I realized what “cheese and rice” really meant. :O
What does cheese and rice mean?
I think it’s a result of a child’s hearing someone say “Jesus Christ”? Say it out loud a few times….
Is is bad that I don’t feel sorry for Amanda?
Oh give it around 4, 5 years.
Make that 10, 11
“last two panels of .)”??? Well the link is there even if the title isn’t. Click on the period (above, not here) and it will take you to the strip I was trying to reference. It’s strip # 26.
Let’s try one more time: strip 26
Heh heh. NOW I get the cheese and rice thing, too.
…I think.
“Cheese and rice”? Can’t say I’ve ever heard someone say that before… though when I sound it out, I can guess at its origin, and what it’s standing in for ๐
As for Amanda… now she’s going to be all upset that Selkie got adopted over her, and won’t have her little portable game system to distract her and take her mind off it any more. Doh!

I get the distinct feeling that deep down, Selkie was Amanda’s only real friend. You know, behind the rivalry. Watching a friend leave is heartbreaking.
Or else Amanda’s just a jerkface in a princess costume.
Rice… Cheese… Now I’m hungry… ๐
Yeah, almost kinda not really. Meh.

Awwws. She’s a mean lil brat, but I almost kinda feel sorry for her… Almost.

That poor GameBoy-like thing! Oh yeah, and poor heart-broken girl. Eh.

……………
Give her 10 years or so and I can safely call Amanda a B****. I feel sorry for her future boyfriends. If she gets any at least.
Oh well, on with the comic!
WIll she get boyfriends? Oh yeah. Will they last? Uuuhhhhhmm…
Just curious, why did you need to repost so many other people’s comments, Dave?
The website went down earlier today, and after coming back up I noticed a few comments that I had gotten notices of by email were not showing. I presume the server crash ate them, so I copy-pasted from my email.
YOU SIR DAVE FAIL! YOU FAIL TO DISPLEASE US!
So keep up the good work, SIR DAVE!
Also good work showing how ones super ego ruins our selves.
Happy to fail you. ๐
I can’t seem to judge Amanda, despite how… harsh she might seem. I guess its hard to accept something like that, especially when you’re little. I think shes more mad at the situation than at Selkie. I had a similar experience when they guy I had pined for a number of years (and he knew it) decided to pursue a lesbian instead. You know you can’t blame either parties, but you’re pissed off beyond belief anyway. I think I broke something too XD I was also a self-centered 15 year old girl at the time. You grow out of it more times than not.
On a lighter note,
Yet another amazing comic <3
Honestly, I can’t really hold it against her finding that hard to accept. Dueling on it won’t help at all, and revenge will only fuel further problems (Anyone recall “Bowlerhat Guy”??). But I can understand taking it hard.
Aww…Amanda, I can understand you’re upset, but maybe people would want to adopt you more if you were just a bit less of a brat. On the other hand, at the least you seem to be yourself, so that’s one thing you have going for you…she needs to be adopted by someone who can give her proper reprimanding.
Also, Selkie is so happy! She’s so adorable when she’s so happy! *happy squeal*
Yesterday I learned again how much I like this webcomic. I’ve seen a couple of my favorites be taken down and never come back again, and so when the website was down I was all sad wondering “Is that all I get to read of selkie?” And I didn’t even back up what there was anywhere…
Thank you so much for sharing and writing. It is a joy to read.
Oh I hate that, when a favorite comic/website just disappears forever. It’s like losing a friend. ๐
Awwwwww. ๐ I know she’s a little brat, but you still have to feel sorry for her. I mean, she’s always ALMOST getting adopted but never does. How much would that suck. Poor Amanda.
Well I have to agree – I CAN feel sorry for Amanda … a little. But I am just so thrilled for Selkie!
Dang Dave … you sure know how to get us to connect with your characters! I think that is the thing that draws me to a comic the most. How believable are the characters and their reactions to their situations. Here we have Selkie, who is obviously not quite the same as the rest of the people around her … she stands out, she’s different, even a little strange. Yet she is still a little girl with real feelings and real reactions. And, going back to your very first strip, we see Todd being nervous on his first visit to the orphanage – and we see that he is also very human with a past that we can connect to.
Alas, I do tend to ramble on a bit much …
And yes, I also get sad when a favorite comic just stops. One that I had been following for a while is “Post Nuke” … it was coming along beautifully till the author/artist had his real life intrude! He got a full-time job (WTG Andreas, btw), and other things just got in the way. Alas, he hasn’t been able to update since December. At least the page is still up, so I have hopes that Andreas will be able to resume work on it again … some day.
Aww, I almost felt bad for Amanda. But I feel bad that the game system got broken. But, all in all, can’t wait to see what happens next. Can’t wait to see how this ball gets rolling.
I have a daughter alot like Selkie, and have known kids like Amanda too, who were either given up by a Mom who could not provide or a parent who did not give a damn. My heart bleeds for these little ones. My thoughts, prayers and efforts go out to those who help to make a better life for these kids. I will keep reading this strip with hope for those like Selkie and the folk who offer them a second chance for a better life.
I have to feel sorry for Amanda. It seems like her one comfort in life was thinking that she’d at least get adopted BEFORE Selkie.
Hm.
First she says ‘OMG’ then she says “Ohmigawd”?
Seems a little… disjunct, if you follow me?
Just wanna ask, i know comic physics are tricky to draw, but did she throw the controller down so hard it sploded, or did she stomp it?
“Rice and cheese!” Gonna try to use that…..
It’s kind of presumptuous on Amanda’s part to assume they will be going to school together, Todd could come from a different town so Selkie might have to go to a different school. Just saying. ๐
