I’ll say it again. Benny called her Little Sister because he knows she’s clan kin somehow. I am still wondering if Scar’s secret is really as much of a secret as he thinks. I also am worried about how Selkie eventually finds out the truth. BEST option really is Benny telling her since she’s not going to hear it from Scar. Or probably Todd.

has there been any indication that you have to be in the same clan to call them Little Sister? I thought it was a polite/friendly way to refer to someone, like in Japanese. Which is why the eel griller on the last page called her Little Sister
I don’t think it’s that simple. Benny’s father is gone, and the reverence he has for him – I believe he died (he may even have said so when Selkie had his echo device – a holographic image of his family). I think this is Benny caring about Selkie but also vicariously warning her not to have regrets like he may have. I still get strong “he may not be perfect but you don’t want to miss the opportunity to know your father” vibes from him, as well as someone to talk to about having a human adoptive parent.

I still think it’s possible that kindred clans refer to the children of their clan in this fashion and Benny knew Selkie’s ancestry even then.

But the eel griller and selkie ARE in the same (publicly acknowledged clan) they are both Jin Sorai
Maybe Benny is Selkie’s half-brother. I mean, Benny does follow the markings and colorations of Scar.
And this is when we find out that Scar’s biggest offense was that he was cheating on Benny’s mom with Selkie’s mom and half the village.
Scar is the father of half the kids in this story including fu manchu mustache kid.
Nah, Benny’s dad was the unfortunate first Sarnothi to have contact with humans… They thought he was just an odd fish and…”processed” him.

He did die, but the echo device was Tekh’s, not Benny’s. Different kid.
