*First thought: I wonder if they’re going to be pointing at every human who shows up and asking “Is that the human echo?”*
*Second thought: Huh, they refer to it as music*
*Third thought: Our little human echo starts a rock band and implements Echo effects into the special effects and her singing.*
Rock on.

Similar things happen with my Spanish speaking relatives. Because I’m white and not fluent, they assume I don’t understand anything they’re saying but it’s just not the case. I pick up all sorts of interesting tidbits that way.
I’m Mexican (born and raised) but very fluent in US English. So about 20 years ago I took a trip to see my relatives in TN by bus. I didn’t like to speak to my family in English, and so most people assumed I didn’t speak English at all, and they said all the weirdest things because they thought I didn’t understand.
I liked to see their facial expression change when they realized I *was* able to understand. 🙂
It’s interesting he’s calling English “Humanese”. Is there only one Sarnothi language? Do they not know we have *hundreds* of languages? Or at least more than one?
If all Sarnothi speak the same language (which seems reasonable, since they seem to have lived in a relatively small area), then it makes sense for him to extend that thinking to “Sarnothi speak this language, humans speak that other one.” It’s not right, of course, but they’d have pretty little information to work with.
(Or they do know there are multiple languages, but the one they had the most exposure to is the one they labeled as Humanese in their language.)
Well, that secret didn’t last long.

No offense to Avery but a lot of times government officials aren’t as good at keeping a secret as they think they are.
If they were good at keeping a secret, you wouldn’t hear about it.
I’m starting to wonder about insider information on this comic, LOL. Today’s actual news stories include “Stonehenge-like structure found hidden in Lake Michigan”

What’s in the panel 3?
It’s probably one of those “once you see it, you can’t unsee it” things, but right now I don’t see it 😀
I think it’s Amanda in Resonance green.
