So more like a copper rod into the ground than insulating the system? (I am a biologist/ecologist, not an electrician.)
On a side note, I have an aunt who has to touch something metal or equivalent to uncharge herself before touching her mouse, keyboard or computer because her body naturally carries an electrical chharge that zaps things (like really bad static). She fried several keyboards and maybe a computer mouse that way.
First test: let Selkie touch it and see if it survives without exploding.

Not visibly I hope?
“It’s perfectly safe, but you will flouresce occasionally.”
‘Scattering energy’ ….so there’s a blast radius?
Not every human has Echo potential; but does broadcasting extra energy make it more likely that Selkie will trigger others latent Echo abilitiew?
