Thoughts: this might end up being a bit of a problem with Todd’s mom. She was already nervous about the abilities, so singed hair is not going to help. It should probably be brought up to her beforehand, without the kids around, and very carefully. This isn’t something that you want to surprise her with, especially not with her learning it directly from the kids. I would rather wait to tell her until they fully know the cause, and obviously taking care of Selkie (and Amanda, since this is a shock to her too) comes first right now. I am very glad that the grandma isn’t here right now because I don’t think that she would have been able to maintain any sort of calm.
Water can be pretty good at distributing heat, at least compared to air. If this had happened underwater, it might have ultimately just spread a little extra warmth around.
It’s likely that, for the li’l echoes to boil themselves alive, they would have needed to either heat the whole lake or produce enough energy to flash-boil the nearby water before the colder surroundings can leech it away.
I hope that the school doesn’t have a dress code about how you’re allowed to do your hair. If Selkie decides the only way to feel empowered and confident is to do really crazy hair, that could go badly.
That might be an issue later, but the good news is that they’re on summer vacation – there’s a few months for her hair to start growing back out, and she doesn’t need to go into school or anything to see people before getting this sorted.
I always found dress codes about people’s hair to be stupid. As long as you aren’t doing anything stupid like refusing to wear protective gear while doing something that requires it due to your hairstyle, I don’t see why what color or shape your hair is matters. Kids have so little control over much of their lives, at least let them control their own hair.
Masterful de-escalation Todd and Amanda.

I wonder if it would be safer for Selkie to practice underwater.
Probably not, considering that Plo Quar managed to destroy Scar’s body while they were both underwater
Maaaybe not. Because now I’m wondering how lil’ echoes don’t accidentally boil themselves alive.

Giant orange punk spike mohawk! Jus’ sayins. I’m sure it would help channel resonance too. Thats pure science.

This is the first time calling Andi is a good idea
