Things are going to be rough until trust builds up between Grandma and the girls. But it can be done. This is like one grandparent of a mixed race child saying “Why couldn’t you be born white?” Really going to be hard to rebuild that trust.
Well can ya blame her? Most of her early life has been full of discrimination. And now part of her found family just did the same thing…. Out of fear. And a kiss isn’t gonna make this better either. Remember the acid spit? I wonder if the grandparents would be opposed to a little scuba trip. Something to run by Avery I think.
Normally, I consider an apology that includes a :but: to be a red flag. Grammatically, throwing a “but” into your sentence boils down to :everything I just said is a lie”/ As in: “I\m sorry for what I did, but… here’s a list of reasons why what I did was; your fault, perfectly justified, or just not really my fault at all”. My ex-wife was really goos at those.
Still, Grandma stated things the other way around. she told what in the situation , threw in the “but” and followed it with the sorry, effectively saying those reasons she had were the things that were invalid.
YES! Thank you for laying it out this way. So many folks I encounter are really bad at apologies because of that wording, and don’t seem to understand why their apologies don’t get the effect they intend.
“I’m sorry for what I said. I’m scared and I don’t understand. But I love you.”
I hope the girls accept this. I’m not sure they will at first for the reasons others have already stated.
I agree with Anime-Mun. A scuba trip could be just the thing, assuming it doesn’t drive Grandma screaming for the hills. If it could be done without the kind of experience Todd had, that would be great. I don’t think Grandma could handle that.
Amanda doesn’t look like she’s quite willing to accept that apology just yet.
Amanda has seen a lot of people say on thing, then turn around and do another.
Yes. Grandma is going to have to prove it with more than just words.
Broken trust can be rebuilt sometimes. Forgiven? Maybe. Forgotten? Nope

Amanda isn’t quick to jump on the forgiveness train. Choo choooooo
Selkie looks pretty dubious, too

Very much this.
