In lieu of Director Commentary, I thought I’d share the pencil sketch version of the final panel of today’s strip.
I wanted a bigger shot of the classroom kids, but cramming so many kids in the panel made the desks look comically small too me.
-EDIT- Almost forgot to say this! I decided to use the airport strip for my student exhibition, as well as a digital painting of a vampire (showcase two different styles of work). It is on display at the University of Illinois Springfield’s Visual and Performing Arts building’s Access Gallery, for those in the area.
Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.
Selkie would make a good Ariel, lol
“Call me Ishmael” lol
Yeah, I giggled at that too. XD
I just had my mind blown so much win with I wanna be rainbow dash.
Is that a Brony saying he wants to be Rainbow Dash or is that a girl talking?
It is indeed a little boy. His names Joe.
(I am working on a seating chart, probably have that ready next update)
Love the Brony. Best part is my name is Joe, and I am a brony who loves Rainbow Dash.
I think Bronies are great…. they aren’t afraid to like a good show with female protagonists! If I was allowed to like Ninja Turtles, then he’s allow to like MLP!
That made me so happy. I almost squeed.
Aye. ‘Tis a good show.
I know a guy in high school who actually got the school to write “Real name (Rainbow Dash)” on his school work portfolio.
Does he get to be Rambo Dash if he joins the military?
This comic just got 20% cooler!
… In 10 seconds flat.
I absolutely LOVE that a boy wants to be named Rainbow Dash. Incidentally, he looks just like my guy friend who is obsessed with MLP:FIM. bronies all the way.
Well, that’s one way to get kids to do the ‘naming game’. 😀
Haha! those kids and their bizarre penchant for giving themselves silly names!
..what?
Rainbow Dash, Ishmael, Ariel, Ben 10?
ILOVEYOU.
Of course. At the mention of homework every student wants to have a fake name. 😛
dear me … I think the teacher is going to have fun with this then 😛
“That clown was SCARY.” Has another generation of youngsters been traumatized by Tim Curry in “It”? XD
I’m actually confused. They were talking about Spider Man in the last panel, then Flixnet (obviously Netflix), and now it jumps to, presumably “It”. When did that come in?
I was trying for a “tail end of the conversation between the coatroom and the desks” thing.
*I Wanna be Rainbow Dash* Awesome display of bronyness!! I hope Selkie likes MLP too 🙂
*brohoof*
/)( Brohoof!
Hee hee! You used our Velvy Gravatar! Thanks, Ippi!
It is my Gravitar Icon. He shows up on several other things I comment on ^-^
Ah… the delightful panic caused by the work “homework”…
That kid on the right who wants to be Rainbow Dash? I WILL find a way to Brohoof him. Fr Srs. The fourth wall will not stop the bronydom.
jediadept, you beat me to that comment.
That was literally what I was going to say.
“I wanna be Rainbow Dash” we all do kid, we all do …
Huzzah for bronies! (someone had to say it).
Ha! I wana high five the kid with the Moby Dick reference. Wouldn’t expect that out of someone so young – I think I was still on Goosebumps back then.
Oh and *GROAN* for “getting to know each other” activities. Hated those back in the day. At least this one doesn’t require you to get up and ask people about themselves.
I used to have a small collection of simplified kid’s versions of classic novels. For some reason, the Around the World in 80 Days retained a scene where Paspartout is given tainted opium, drugged and kidnapped. I remember asking my grandmother, “Gramma, what’s an opium den?”
When I was a kid (around 10 years of age), I read pretty much all of the Tintin comics (still read them occasionally), and they served as something of an eyeopener to how scary the world can be. (But of course the good guys always won, so in the end it was always okay.)
I’ve high hopes of Spielberg’s Tintin.
I used to read the “Classics Illustrated” graphic novels. Kinda like Selkie and hunchback haha
Goosebumps for the win!
This comic just made Selkie 20% cooler.
XD Aw, Selkie wants to be The Little Mermaid… I could write a long-winded comment on how that makes sense (I had to research mythical creatures and either approve or disprove the theories that they exist last year in my Supernatural Literature class, and I happened to come across selkies in that research) but I think nobody would really care for it, because lets face it, so many people are “afraid” (for lack of better words) of knowledge.
And as for the “getting to know the class” exercises, I STILL had to do those in HIGH SCHOOL. Quit complaining and get used to it. XD
I kinda liked the getting to know you activities haha. Especially in classes I knew I was going to suck at
I just realized something. That’s amanda on the far left that started the whole thing with her “Homework?! Uhm… I’m… Judy” comment, lol.
I love the smug look you draw on your characters.
Why, oh WHY did I not have a Mrs. Afkhami when I was growing up? She seems so cool!
BROHOOF TO ALL THE BRONIES AND PEGA-SIS OUT THERE!
SO AWESOME
That being said, If he gets to be Rainbow Dash then I have dibs on Twilight.
What? No Spartacus? They don’t teach the classics nowadays.
At this point I can say that I am a little upset and a lot more relieved that someone didn’t ask to be Lucy yet …
Since you mentioned Rainbow Dash, you could probably submit this to Equestria Daily. They plug comics that make MLP references.
“John is Captain Hook” … I’m not quite sure if John’s friend knows how this works.
Could you please not use the term gyp. It is a bit pejorative, and while I am not myself Romani, my grand father was, as are some of my extended family.
I apologize for that, I didn’t realize the term was a slur against Romanis. I’ll change it right away.
I’d like to put down
"My Lord"
or"Sir"
on my name tag.Sorry, Joe. You’ve got to be about 20% cooler.
Ah, the amusing dangers associates with surprisingly perceptive children. ^_^
Oh man, as a teacher, that’s spot on! I’ve kids try that with me every year!
So… nobody wants to be Inigo Montoya?
For a second I thought Ishmael said Ishamael and I started freaking out from excitement…and then I realized I misread it. It would be awesome if one of the kids was a WoT fan.
Oh man, bring the teacher to the Forsaken would be nerve-racking
Late reply, but you know WoT? Awesome.
