Todd: Hey, Selkie? Can you stay with Mister and Misses Brown for a moment?
Selkie: Gonna go fights Mister Scar?
Todd: GOD no. I'm just going to talk to him a bit.
Selkie: Rights, rights. Brings me back a tooth.
Todd: ...I think maybe we should consider setting you up with your sister's anger-management counselor.

I love you, but "punch the green laser-shark in the face" exceeds the limit.
I cannot stress this enough…YES PLEASE TODD. Seriously, please have Selkie see a counselor, she needs it very, very, VERY badly, because while Amanda’s mental health has been improving, Selkie’s still hasn’t. Have someone talk to her about how every time something just makes her think they’re mocking her, it sets her off, even if no insult was intended. That ain’t healthy.
On a less serious note: Is Scar being a wallflower?
Gotta second this. NORMAL childhoods leave people in need of a counselor just because immature brains don’t interact well with the real world. Selkie’s childhood experiences have been anything but normal. A counselor would be a huge positive.
Is Selkie a normal, well-adjusted human child? She can’t be, she’s a Sarnothi.
Is Selkie a normal, well-adjusted Sarnothi child? She can’t be, she’s a refugee who’s been raised by a different species.
Is anger management a good idea? Always!
Is the Socratic method always annoying? I’ll get me coat…
Agree. She gets way too angry whenever someone says something that she perceives wrong and takes the wrong way even if the intent wasn’t meant to insult or mock. She definitely needs to find better ways to cope and channel her anger. I get she’s been bullied so she has a lot of pent up anger, but that’s no excuse to go off on innocent people. You can’t make excuses like that for anyone, bullying victim or not. It just makes it more understandable, but certainly doesn’t make it right or warranted.
Honestly I think she needs a counselor for two simpler reasons: first, everyone needs one, mental health is as mandatory as physical health and both need checkups. Second, she’s a child in very unique, stressful circumstances — being a refugee, living in a culture totally foreign to her original people, having lots of restrictions humans don’t (carnivory, gill moisture, certain heat requirements).
The question is, can you find one that’s equipped to deal with a kid who’s not human and is a refugee from a completely unknown culture? An underequipped therapist can do a lot of damage to a person. Even with humans there’s a lot of risks that come up especially if someone has problems outside the basic depression/anxiety, or if the therapist doesn’t know how to approach cultural issues well. It might not be simple or even possible to find her a counselor that’s able to provide decent help, and it’s better to not see someone than to see someone who makes things worse. Just because it’s talking and not meds doesn’t mean there’s no risks.
Sorry Todd, but I happen to think given all of the circumstances with Selkie and how maturely she’s managed to handle most of it, including having an alien technology used to suppress her Mother also used on her, she’s handling it pretty well. Making jokes like that is just another form of coping for a lot of people.
Sure, after I spike his pre battle meal with some broccoli.
Am- am I allowed kryptonite?
Speaking of that sister, bring her back a suveneer this time
