Gien: Greetings. Avery asked me to assist you.
Carrie: Oh, y-yes. Thank you, Gien.
Gien: If it is alright, could I talk to Miss Selkie in private for a moment?
Benny: Hey, quick question. Do you know what the humans say about an adult who tries to take a kid away from line-of-sight like that?
Benny. Usually means nothing good is planned. I'm sure you're fine to talk here, yeah?
Gien: Ugh... teenagers.
Carrie: Oh, y-yes. Thank you, Gien.

This is a test of a new implementation for the poorly-kept semi-secret extra commentary. Please ignore the maniac ramblings of the elephant of eloquence, I am quite tired.
Go Benny go
Look at Ben being a big brother of sorts! Love it!
thing is hes not wrong.
He’s a smarmy arrogant teen, but he’s got a heart in the right place. Good kid.
YES BENNY!!!
Seriously…where did this protective streak come from? Is this just his usual rebellion redirected at a common enemy?
It reminds me of a typical sibling relationship: “Nobody is allowed to hurt her except me.”
Oh no, your comment just made me think of something. How old was his little sister supposed to be at this point? How close in age to you think Selkie is with his little sister that has seemed to disappeared?
Oh…oh dang…I’d forgotten about that…I WAS NOT EXPECTING FEELS ABOUT BENNY
I don’t remember the sister at all… link?
Benny’s been seen to have a very ‘sibling’ like relationship with Selkie before. Even asking to go with Avery to tell her she messed up and overall having fun hanging out with her.
Benny also may be aware of the kind of jerk Gien is as they’ve been to the colony before and knows he’ll dig his claws into Selkie to get what he wants.
I absolutely believe Benny knows what kind of person Gien is. His Usual Rebellion Meter probably has a special flag for it (other adults are secretly more accepting of sassing these targets).
I love Benny. He can act like a brat at times but he looks out for Selkie.
He kind of acts like a stereotypical older cousin.
And Benny for the save! It connects!
Woooo, go Benny!
Benny read Gien like a BOOK
Benny, you may need an attitude adjustment for somethings, but this is the right attitude right now.
Before I continue, I know that this subject is charged with a lot of controversy and thus I want to say this is my own personal experience and not what is shaping across the country.
I was one of many leaders for my son’s local Cub Scout group, and first thing they drilled into us is Youth Protection. First rule they drilled into us when we started and every year was never put yourself in a one on one situation with a youth. That means either have another adult with you when you are with a youth, or two or more youths present. Benny’s words ring true to me on so many levels. I am glad his is stepping in to make sure that Gien isn’t going to do something that could hurt Selkie, even if he is reasonably sure that Gien isn’t going to physically hurt her.
Oh Benny, you’re my Hero!
When my daughter was in Girl Scouts this was literally a rule. No one-on-one with a kid, and more importantly, the parents cannot be counted as a “second.” It was a pain sometimes, but it was safer for the kids.
Dear God, the reply function is still messed up. That was in reference to the Cub Scouts.
Love you, Benny. I’m proud^^
STRANGER DANGER STRANGER DANGER
Good boy, Benny. You were raised right.
So Gien DOES know Selkie’s name. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if Benny had to deal with people like him before, what with living on the surface and having a human as a step-dad.
God job, Benny!
This is actually pretty intelligent and it doesn’t just apply to children either.
Had issues with a supervisor pulling people to the side and screaming at them, when we found out we started making them take a witness with.
Sometimes teenagers should stand up to adults. Adults aren’t always right.
Good boy, Benny. You can smell the eelshit a mile away.
Good one.
I can’t wait too see how Selkie reacts to her overblown racial pride speech.
Yes, ugh, teenagers. Old enough to know when something doesn’t smell right, and at that wonderful age where they don’t care who they tick off. Aren’t they just the worst? 😛 (to answer my own question, they certainly can be, but they can also be the best)
(Gonna point out that Benny’s last ‘I’m’ is missing the apostrophy.)
*apostrophe
Teens are the worst. But they’re also the best. And they can be both at the same time. Love it, Benny, good job
Thank you, Benny! Between what Benny will be telling Avery later and what Te Vahn will be telling Avery (or Pohl) later, let’s hope we get some closer supervision of Gien. Whether or not Selkie is around. This guy is bad news. Since Te Vahn’s comments, I almost wonder if he’s gone a little nuts in his obsession over reclaiming their heritage or whatever it is that’s goading him to force a child into the obligations of being an Echo.
Benny with this one moment all your teenage bratty behavior has been absolved and future indulgences added.
ONLY 17 cups of coffee?… You slacker!… Back in MY day you weren’t allowed to be called a “Raving Madman” until after you’ve 20!…
on a more serious note… I’m quite sure that Gien knows of Carrie’s rather submissive nature when it comes to personality conflicts as shown by her stuttering of the word ‘y-yes’… and that i’m also positive that he was NOT counting on BENNY going against his wishes. i’ll bet you that he was totally expecting Carrie to just “allow” Selkie to be taken out of the group for a private convo, and she probably wouldn’t have thought anything was “wrong” about it… having grown up in Sarnoth, she’s probably so used to it being just one of those “privileges” that a Whisper gets in Sarnothi society, whereas since Benny has been brought up to speed in OUR society he’s not going to allow it blindly…
When my doctor asked me to limit my coffee intake my youngest bought me a 850 ml coffee “cup”. so that I can restrict my intake to one “cup” per day. It usually takes 2/3 of the pot to fill my “cup”.
I love how absolutely none is taking Gien’s crap.
I wouldn’t put it past Benny to relay some… concerns to Avery or a resident or five of Haven Jin’suir that Gien is behaving in a pattern that matches the Hu-mon concept of some very unfortunate types.

Yes! Test passed, dear sleepy pachyderm
Oh? Oooooooh? Could that possibly be reference to this:

I knew I liked Benny.
Mmm…the test passed on my phone, but when I switched to Opera on my PC, it no longer worked and is glaringly obvious. 🙁
In your face commentary with iPad, nothing hidden. Hmmmm. This will take research. Also, no transcript.
Oops, thank you.
You know, Dave, This changes my whole picture of Benny. I have always seen him as a strong personality in a hard spot. War does that. But seeing him watching out for Miss Purple-Pointy-Teeth, well, … it just warms my heart.
Works now on both phone and PC, so I think we’re finding a winner, I hope!
Yeah, working on my i-iiiyi devices, now.
What’s that Scooby Doo villain catchphrase?
Oh yeah, “and I would’ve gotten away with it if it hadn’t been for those meddling kids.”
It’s the look on Selkie’s face that gets me. Somewhere between “uh-oh” and sheer distress. I suspect that Benny was reacting to that.
