Benny, cool your jets! Everything that got in this lake is Super. It’s Super.ior!
I’m guessing clay jars hardened with echo technology, or Else stone jars. Tightly woven baskets make of kelp leaves, if there is anything that big in Superior. Anything to allow fermentation without Interference.
Even better, Dave might overhear the giant A-hole there say something about his plans for Selkie in Tensei around him. Then he gets a nasty shock when Todd reveals he heard him.
I’m worried that most of the responders are expecting ashholery from Gien. He IS a divisive character, of unknown or perhaps just unrevealed political agendas. … but whoohee folks, he’s not Blaine or Toedad…. or is he? He’s not pure evil, he’s Gien, not Darth Palpatine.
Not to spoil a perfectly good witticism, but I always find punning in something that’s supposed to be translated problematic. Would the Tensei words for “fair” and “fare” coincidentally sound alike, or for that matter, would Tensei even have the concepts behind both words? Not to mention Selkie technically just has a kindergarten vocabulary of her native tongue so, while she can communicate just fine I wouldn’t think she’s up for subtle wordplay.
Oh come on now, Benny! Of course they get to do other things. I mean, sometimes the eel taunting ends with people losing limbs.
Is Dave going to go full Tolkien on us?
Interesting that Benny and his mom are still speaking English.
Perhaps to be polite to human company?
I wonder how eel is fermented underwater, though?
I would assume the same way many foods are fermented on land, seal it in some kind of container, clay jars perhaps?

Or they’re speaking Tensei but Dave forgot to include the markers? I note that Carrie isn’t speaking with “the usuals accents”.
…OK, now the speech pattern is there, so it is indeed English.
Yay! Yes! Todd learns Tensei. This needs to happen.
This will signal a strong commitment to supporting his daughter as she explores her birth culture.

Wonder if they have eelfighting.
Surely not EVERYBODY was Kung eel fighting…
As a kid, tried to catch eels in muh bare hands. It was fast as lightning! It was a little bit frightening, it took expert timing.
Is fair/fare even a homophone in tensei?
I still wonder if/how Gien is going to try and pull something if Selkie doesn’t do what he wants her to do.
Also, minor nitpick, the ‘e’ in ‘something’ was left out in the last panel in Benny’s speech bubble.
I’m wondering how they would make clay jars under water.
I’m guessing Echo powers have something that allow for that, given that they can make laser weapons and have items that provide heat.
Hmmm… eel surströmming…
…that would be just cruel. To anyone. Within the same body of water.
Oof. Not looking forward to seeing just HOW assholy Gien will get when he notices he’s got two Sar’Teri visitors.
Or maybe he was told beforehand and is planning to wait until he gets them alone and then unleash all his dickery.

Looking forward to see if Pants has found his true form yet
