Foreshadowing nothing, we’re seeing the sub here & now (unless that’s “reading the book” sub, in which case I rescind my playfully snarky initial comment)
Interesting fact: The 20,000 leagues refers to the distance traveled, not the depth.
A league is 3 nautical miles (3.452 miles, 5.556 km).
Therefore 20,000 leagues would be 69,040 miles/111,120 km)
The deepest point in the ocean is a mere 6.831 miles/10.994 km deep) aka about 2 leagues.
For comparison:
The circumference of the earth is 40,075 km. Or about 7,213 leagues. Therefore 20,000 leagues is enough to go around the world almost 3 times.
The distance to the moon is 384,400 km (avg) or about 69,000 leagues. So 20,000 leagues gets you just under 1/3 of the way there.
These fun facts brought to you thanks to wondering how deep the Nautilus went while riding the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride at DisneySea in Tokyo earlier this year.
Not sure if Selkie is much of a video game enthusiast, but something tells me she might like Subnautica. It’s also mostly content-appropriate for someone her age, in my opinion.
Especially since you can chase down, catch, and eat all the beautiful, yummy alien fish. The reaper leviathans might remind her too much of the giant eel that almost ate her dad, though.
In Subnautica, my Seamoth (the smaller submersible) is yellow with red trim and named the “V. I. Lennon”. (Credit where credit’s due: I got part of the idea from Don McLean and part of the idea from Yahtzee, who named his the “Yoko Oh No”.)
So, are you telling us that “we can follow him wherever he goes?” The him being Yahtzee.
“….be my, be my, be my Yoko Ono, oh no.” (don’t blame it on Yoko!)
Shouldn’t that be more like …
dun … dun DUN dun … dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun DUN DUN DUN DUN PAAAANNTS!!
Foreshadowing! Weeee!

I’ve just reread the SNL riff on this, snltranscripts DOT jt DOT org/93/93qleagues.phtml
I adore that book…might be time for a reread. Its stealth sequel wasn’t bad either.
By stealth sequel, do you mean “Nadia: Secret of Blue Water” or Disney’s Atlantis?
Except for making no chronological sense.
Selkie: Oh I gets its. Its a segways!

We all live in a yellow submarine…
Under the sea, under the sea,…
Hey-ho, we’ll go, anywhere the wind is blowing,
Brave and bold are we, Sailing to adventure on the Big Blue Wet Thing!
Bonus points for the Muppet Treasure Island reference!
Uh, Mr. Bimble says Thank You!

Correction: his _Cyclops_, the 40-meter submarine, is the Yoko Oh No.
