Fifth frame, last comic, Selkie’s tears are black.
Second frame, this comic, her tears are pale blue. I’m assuming that supposed to be “water-colored” – just plain ol’ normal tears like everybody else cries.
Why the color change? I like the black tears myself. Goes well with the blue blood – reinforces “that this is not a human being”.
I don’t think they are black, but rather just the outline being close together. If you look at her right eye in the previous comic, you’ll see it has blue in it.
The writing has always been a little inconsistent in that regard. Characters pretty much know what they need to know because the story needs to keep moving.
It has suddenly occurred to me that Plo Quar may not have *known* that the suppressor could permanently damage her daughter’s Echo abilities. She may have simply cannibalised the one Scar made as a rushed protection measure without knowing just how powerful it was.
That or she knew, but didn’t have time/resources to make one herself.
Perhaps the flaw was that she used herself to calibrate the device, based on her knowledge of herself, … the self that she knew herself to be, before her battle with The Farmer, (hereafter known as TF). Perhaps she leveled-up, through her battling him, and so over-built the device not realizing her new strength stats.
“And not the fun kind of evil.”
That’s an important distinction to make. It’s surprising how few people in our universe do.

They weren’t intended to be black, the outlines are just a bit too thick.
I’mma be honest, I really liked the black tears too.
Confirmed: Selkie turns evil because she’s a Tear Drinker. Ormagöden does not approve.
A shame there’s no upvote button here.
But the Laser Wizard has no nose to punch!
I think that it would be like the “Boot to the head” sketch: “Get in the first shot”
Would probably have similar results, though
I don’t seem to remember Selkie ever knowing that she had lost powers, just that she needed to learn.

Sometimes I make a “command decision” that characters have been told things off-screen. Sometimes that works out for me, other times…
I can think of two reasons why Scar hasn’t tried, and both of them are called Gien.
Thank you for stating that coherently. The third is, of course, Selkie’s Mom.

I kind of want “if you must punch the laser wizard, make it count” written on a T-shirt now …
I love the trust and vulnerability on Selkie’s face as she looks up at Tod in panel 4. Well done.
