Today’s guest strip is a peek into the future, from Hadiyah. Thank you!
I am actually 1 over the number of submissions I needed for hiatus week, so there will be a BONUS GUEST COMIC this week on New Year’s Eve. Just a heads up. 😀
Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.
I think that this is what most of us are secretly hoping the final page will be like. 🙂
Actually, I hope the final frame is Amanda as a successful boxer with Selkie as her trainer in a Rocky style montage. “Is wants yous to craps lightnings!”
That’s “eat lightning and craps thunder” but first, ya gotta catch the little chicken.
I have a bad memory. The brainpan has a few leaks. But as long as the intent is known.
As long as it doesn’t end like Million Dollar Baby.
Fish sis. Heh. Selkie grew ear!
While a positive hope for the future, this strip would only fit in as an April Fool’s Day/Opposite Day joke. Even if the kids outgrow their animosity and bury the hatchet, this kind of syrupy dialogue just wouldn’t exist (and that would be even if they were normal sisters with no negative history). A more plausible and still possible positive future would be, “Don’t worry, I’ve got your back if anything goes wrong.” “Ands Is will spits poisons on anyones that bullies yous.”
Thanks Dwight
No names are specified within the strip itself, and the dialogue indicates that the human is the strange one. Is this set in the future of the alternate universe with the human adopted into a society full of Sarnothi?
Wapsi Square crossover.
This is so cute I could die of cuteness overload.
Twilight Zone confirmed
Scenes from Amanda’s imagination in a couple years probably.
The “fish sis” thing kind of bugs me. I know it’s supposed to be ‘cute’ and all, and indicate they’ve grown past their rivalries, but based of what I’ve seen of Selkie so far, I’m gonna go out on a limb and suggest that Selkie is never going to regard “fish” as a term of endearment, nor should she. It’s a racial slur, and I don’t see a fictional sarnothi put up with “fish” any more than I see a real life black person put up with “nigger”, especially someone as belligerent as Selkie.
And yes, I am fully aware that Amanda doesn’t know that Selkie is a different species. She, like 99% of the people who know Selkie, think she is a ‘special needs kid’; in other words from her point of view she’s using a disability slur, as if that made it any better. Amanda’s continued insistence on using that term, is actually pretty much the sole remaining factor that still keeps me from liking her.
Agreed. It’s very triggering. /s
That’s a pretty long limb. People generally get over that stuff and adopt them as terms of endearment. Then again they’re both getting seriously PC upbringings so you could be right.
It’s possible that “fish sis” shows maturity on BOTH their parts. Amanda has toned down her animosity to where it’s only “fish sis” and Selkie has toned down her defensiveness to where she can acknowledge the nickname without ripping Amanda a new one. I like it.
I think “non-human” would be a better term than “sub-human,” just saying…
And people are complaining about “fish sis” instead?
I’m assuming this is more the case of the author of the strip not knowing exactly what sub-human means, though.
Yeah, I’m hearing the Laguz from Fire Emblem Tellius snarling over that one.
Glad I’m not the only one whose mind went to Fire Emblem, haha!
I was actually wishing I could post some sort of “Ike Does Not Approve” picture.
I’m going to agree with Dawn on this one however. I heard the evil woman from the Harry Potter series who tried to face down the centaurs and actually try to explain to them that the were “sub human”
Though not very likely, this is cute, Hadiyah
