I am going to have another sketch day bonus update this weekend. Although it won’t be a League of Legends sketch this time. In the comments of the last comic an interesting conversation about the comic’s art style popped up, and I’ve been… dabbling some things. I’ll share them on Saturday. 😀
Also have a fan art from Bard to share!
Thanks so much Bard!
Almost all of the characters in the comic have a little something from myself. I am starting to see some of my own weaknesses in Heather.
Discussion (26) ¬
I had no idea how long Selkie’s dress was.
Ya my bad. Shortened it back a bit. XD thanks
Oh cool. I didn’t know that was a mistake lol
She was abandoned? Wth.
well, they were all abandoned (although it wasn’t always by choice; cf. Hamid).
This was discussed back when we found out about Amanda’s background – a Caucasian girl given up for adoption as a newborn; she wouldn’t have stayed unadopted at that age, so it was more logical that she was adopted then, but was later given up for some reason.
It could be possible that she didn’t even know she was adopted by the Sandersons. She could have thought that they were her birth parents.
Panel seven is a new favorite face for me.
Her dress just came to her knees in all the previous pages.
Bleargh. Dunno how I didn’t catch that before, thanks.
How dare you not have proper dress continuity good sir!
(just watched dark shadows)
She got returned. Defective merchandise, 15% discount.
I am going to guess that Amanda wanted the Sandersons to be her long lost parents back to reclaim her so badly that she managed to make herself believe it. And then, not surprisingly they didn’t pick her. This is so plausible, especially in the type of orphanage situation she is in.
Aha! So that’s why Heather was afraid her new parents would return her to the orphanage! She’s seen it happen before…
Glad you like it Dave, it was a fun thing to do. For the readers that are curious the little satyr with her is my own character, Hermes Stavos. I thought it would be cute to have them have a conversation together 🙂
Actually if I may jump on the bandwagon from Monday’s page. I want add something about the art. It has been seriously consistent since the beginning. I don’t think people realized how hard it is to keep a character consistent. Even as I look at the fan art I made I realized that I should probably have made Hermes a bit chunkier. So I definitely tip off my hat to Dave for keeping Selkie stable in character design.
Is that a cellphone in a front pocket of her skirt? Third frame, looks like there is something clipped in a front pocket in the middle of her skirt halfway down…
That’s a flower. It’s kind of blobby from that far away, but the green part of the dress has grass blades and a flower on the bottom.
Going to do a little bumping for the Selkie chatroom on League of Legends here. We’re dwindling, rather than growing.
For those especially inclined, there are ways of getting various chat clients to connect to League, and chatrooms work. So you can chat with League-playing Selkie readers from wherever.
Most (if not all) of the details for that are available online. I believe there’s still a particular thread on the LoL forums themselves about it, that contains everything you’ll need.
I’m so confused. Do we know the Sandersons? Am I totally derping?
You’re not missing anything. This is their first direct mention.
Yeah I was reading all the way back from comic 1 just to find out they were never mentioned 😀
I love Selkie’s face in the next to last panel. Classic.
So Amanda IS Andi and Todd’s daughter?
Holy shite… that’s gonna be fun when Andi gets her back and wants to get back with Todd… “Hey Todd, guess what, I didn’t lie about killing our kid, here she is!” and then Selkie going “RREEEEEEE!!” into Amanda’s face…
I’m guessing the Sanderson’s were foster parents and no one realized Amanda’s misunderstanding. I find it doubtful she would have been returned, her current personality “quirks” seem like something she got into as a result of anger and feelings of rejections.
