I envy today's youth being able to go on road trips in an era where portable game systems and smart phones exist.
It wasn’t just today’s youth! Game Boys were a thing in the mid 90’s, and I also had an old cassette Walkman.
Ha ha, okay fair, I forgot about GameBoys. I used to try and bring a book on road trips, unfortunately those are how I learned I get roadsick.
I was about to suggest a nice book, but yeah, roadsickness puts the kibosh on that. I pity those who get roadsick.
Many novels were finished in the back of the minivan.
My sister was the same. Later on we found out that she was a bit nearsighted so getting glasses helped. She also got to sit in the front (and therefore more room) a lot, which made me jealous.
AH… the sweet stress of having to play Pokemon in glimpses as you travel down the highway and hit the overhead lights…
I remember once driving just the right speed to stay in front of the car behind, so my son could read by their headlights
Technically “today’s” youth aren’t able to go on ANY trips XD
“A few months from now’s” youth, hopefully.
*twitch*
now, now. They are also showing their improved relationship by finishing each other’s sentences and feeding off each other’s excitement.
Aww. They’re utterly precious when they’re happy.
On the other hand, when we were kids, nobody expected you to be in a car seat if you were over the age of about 3, so we could lay down, change seats, etc.
I literally CANNOT get over how cute they both are here. *squee*
I grew up on roads trips with my grandparents, including days long ones such as from Helena, MT to Minnesota or Seattle. Even though we were in the 90s and 00s we didn’t have gameboys or walkmans. We made due with the age old car games of alphabet games and recording car licence plates from different states (trying to get all 50 or close to). Plane flights across country were worse but better then than now. More room and better (and free) food then unlike the cattle treatment it is now. I do not regret being able to travel so much, but I do not miss being squished into a seat for that long. Train rides were so much better than either cars or planes. More room and ability to move.
I like that as an adult on a road trip you can just stare at the scenery going by and let your mind zone out.
But then everyone else in the car is all “Careful! Look out where you’re driving! You almost killed us!” blah blah blah.
As the old joke goes, I want to die like my father did, peacefully and in my sleep. Not screaming like the passengers in his car.
These two are well into the “sisters” thing. Good on them.
