To be honest, I am surprised it even got past the office. Most schools that I know of nowadays require you to go in to the office to get a pass before walking around the school. I would have thought that they would have held the flowers there and investigate (maybe with a teacher with the student teacher watching the class) and not disturb the class with something like that. Especially if they don’t know who it is from and are worried it might be a stalker.
On a side note, if Te Fahn wanted to turn this around, giving it to a teacher as a thank you gift or sharing them by giving each person in class a flower (if there are enough) might be better than nothing. Not that she has any experience with any of this though.
We picked up my boyfriend’s little sister yesterday and it took us over an hour. When we went into the front ‘office’ (it was basically like the room you go into if you’re being buzzed in to visit a prison inmate) we had to pass through a gate first which required our IDs. Mine was immediately rejected by the staff because my last name isn’t the same so I had to wait outside. He had to go into the office, hit a button and hold up his ID to a camera before being buzzed in and freaked by a cop. He then went to the waiting area, once again having to use his ID to prove who he was. He also had to get his photo taken by the staff who radioed another member of the staff and SENT THE PICTURE TO THEM in order for his face to be verified by his little sister and then they had to double check to make sure he was on the approved pick up list which also involved calling his parents to verify who he was. THEN he was allowed to move to a different waiting area in order for them to radio someone ELSE to bring his sister out.
I know this isn’t probably the norm but this was absolutely ridiculous to me. So yeah, I’m inclined to think those flowers wouldn’t have even made it in through the front gate let alone the classroom.
Probably depends on how familiar the front office is with you and how many kids the school has. My mom substituted a lot for the district and we were a rural/small town area, so they were more lienient with her picking me up I think. I do know that it changed a lot from the 90s and when I graduated high school with becoming less lax.
You know… As upset as Te Fahn is, something about her eyes doesn’t scream “I hate you 5ever”.
She seems more hurt. Like, “Oh great. I made her angry and this was her revenge. I’m never going to live this down… And she’s an Echo so I can’t retaliate.”
Either way… Te Fahn seems more hurt than angry, to me.
Though, maybe there’s a tiny little shipper in me because… *Conspiratorial whisper* Is Te Fahn upset because she had a secret crush on Selkie and now she can’t act on it???
I read it the same as you. It could shift to actual anger later on but right now Te Fahn just seems hurt. And why wouldn’t she be? From her point of view all she did was say that the whole ‘evil genius’ schtick was a little weird but qualified that with saying that she still liked Selkie just fine. Otherwise she’s been nothing but nice.
Te Fahn has from the beginning wanted to be friends with Selkie. Selkie stands out in the classroom as the one Sarnothi student who was there already, so it makes sense that she’d gravitate towards her, and overall she tends to be a little more on the reserved/timid side so having a guide to help her make friends with the human students was actually really helpful to her.
When Tehk and Selkie were letting slip that Selkie was an Echo and bragging about it, Te Fahn sat back quietly and looked disappointed because they were not behaving properly. When she’s upset, she gets sad.
Now Selkie, her first new friend in this new society, harshly humiliated her and of course she feels bad about it. But I think that if Selkie apologizes, she’d be willing to forgive, not because Selkie is a big ole Echo, but because Selkie is her friend who she likes and appreciates. But Selkie should talk to Te Fahn and George as soon as possible to make this right.
Based on how I remember elementary school, it doesn’t matter that the flowers were intercepted — there’s no way this could NOT have ended up being embarrassing to Te Fahn.
…yea given everything else this does seem like the conclusion to come to rather than assuming Selkie has a crush.
Though really as people said its the school who handled this in the worst way possible.
Yeah, they were responsible on on calling her dad, Selkie clearly screwed up big time, and yet they’re all calling fowl on the school.
Whelp, she owes Te Fahn and George an explanation, no way around it now.
Oh sorry’s I didn’t mean for this to be a response.

I think I’d be hurt too.
We have not t yet seen Georgie’s reaction.
Not sure that I wanna see Our Selkie when he gets done chewing her out.
George didn’t get hit by this yet, luckily for him. Dunno how she even wanted Teh Fahn to think it’s from him honestly.
Oh I agree she has every right to feel hurt and betrayed.
Before the colors I thought this was Selkie and Tehk, i.e. Selkie giving the note to Tehk
Yeah, it’s been mentioned before but those two REALLY need to be made more distinct, design-wise.
Yeah, I also think that. It’s one reason recent strips, I’ve tried to put a bit more body/floof to Selkie’s hair.

What should have happened is they call in the students one by one after class.

This is really sad. This appears to be the first time Selkie’s really had the wind taken out of her sails—at least since her mother left her.
