I will commit blasphemy, I never liked it! I could never get what was going on. It was up there with “Prince Valiant” for best “what the Hell IS this” comic strip, in my mind.
Ed, like Doonesbury, which came much later, it was political commentary on the Stae of the Union, and what Congress and the POTUS were doing, the Centaur character was LBJ, and there was a lot of commentary on his Social policies, and a lot on his foreign policies as well. There is no statement more appropriate for America this week than, “We have met the enemy, and he is us.”
You mean how it looks from a 2019 perspective
Adults know this is adorable and a good thing. Aside from the dishonesty. But there aren’t any adults anymore, just a lot of children.
heh, I’ve sent flowers to girls at school, granted this was over 15 years ago and even though it said “secret admirer” on the card, I always told them one day after
This was in Mexico, so its interesting to see the difference of what is considered “creepy” here and in the USA
Seconding what Zach said – these kids are in elementary school and there’s no occasion for flowers (like a birthday or Valentine’s Day), so the administrators are just worried that it was someone outside the school, possibly a stalker or worse.
Oh man, here’s hoping they at least don’t read the “To” part in front of everyone. That embarrassment AND destruction of the shipping plan will be to cruel!
One of my all-time fav. sites. The wrecks are totally EPIC!
(Caution: some readers may find this level of mistake/stupidity to be impossible. I assure you, it is an accurate portrayal of what happens in shops and stores everywhere.
Oh poor Selkie, you tried so hard to do a nice thing.
No plan ever survives first contact with the enemy.
“We have met the enemy and he is us”
Possum Fever, I miss Wally and Pogo. Spending that much time on the water fishing… Sigh.
I guess Albert was my fav. Even though Pogo got the best lines.
Porky Pine here. Although I always loved Howland and Churchy bouncing grand dumb plans off of each other.

Well they didn’t need to embaress her infront of the whole class.
>Client can’t come after you if you write down exactly what they tell you<
That's the attitude that gives you birthday cakes saying, "Happy Birthday Tommy In All Caps".
Like what she did was certainly “dumb” but not really “wrong” so she better not get into too much trouble for this.
I just hope the adults realize that she couldn’t possibly have known how it would look from an adult perspective.

As someone who’s seen “harmless” practical jokes blow up in their face, I feel for Selkie right now.
Why did all the flowers ‘go green’?
I’ll have to fix that later. Thanks.
🙂
This reminds me of one of David Mitchell’s rants on QI

Selfie is 8
there is an age limit for creepiness? I wrote cards and letters at 8…

The plural on admirers makes it somehow worse, too.
Typo in panel 2.

Hopefully the embarrassment here is the only punishment she gets, because I promise you, the kids, especially Kiesha, will not let her live this down.
I’m more worried in explaining why she did this she’ll embarras george and tehfan.
Even if everyone just asumes Selkie herself has a crush Teh fan will get crap for that from other kids.
Writing is not speech. Verbal tics don’t transfer to paper.
She didn’t go to the florist and write out the card herself. She called it in, and the florist wrote it down as she said it. Thus the extra Esses.
And if you don’t believe the florist would do it that way, well…go check out the Cake Wrecks blog sometime.
