(I know I said I was trying to dial back the Evil Overlord jokes but.. well, they just come to me. XD)
Thank you everyone for your concern the other day. I’m fine, just had a bit of a nod-off that went too long. Sometimes I’m just a bat who spends too long in the sun.
"That's MISS Mussolini, to you!"
Shouldn’t Selkie be referring to Pohl as “Doctor Pohl”?
Also, I can’t tell, does Dave draw humans with 4 fingers or 3? (both are common in comics) I’m trying to determine if Sarnothi have a different number of digits than humans, which would have made gloves kinda difficult for Pohl even without the webs (unless he felt like storing a hotdog for a snack later.)
I’ve gone back a bit, and it’s four fingers + thumb, as seen here for example: https://selkiecomic.com/comic/selkie1113/ There’s also a few other examples, but it didn’t make sense to link them all
They’ve already discussed this in a previous comments section: Real-life humans missing a finger will just tie one of the fingers off. Or, I suppose, flip it inside-out so it’s pinned to the side of the glove.
If Pohl was his last name, Dr. Pohl would be correct, but since it’s his first name, she’s doing that dumb “we’re friends so I call him by his first name, but he’s an adult so I show respect by saying ‘Mister’ first”.
I grew up in the southeastern US, and we tended to refer to friends of our parents as “Uncle/Aunt Wossname” even when they were of no relation.
This is a Chinese thing, too.
Even “that dumb thing” of using first names tends to use “Doctor” when applied to one; my kid’s pediatric office does that with all the doctors (subject to name clashes, that is.) For example, the receptionist at my dermatologist’s office refers to my doctor as “Doctor Ashley”.
That’s why I was curious; generally, you don’t use “Mister” with a doctor in any case.
Mr. Dave, are you sure it’s Selkie who wants to be an overlord and not you? 😉 ?
The best place to help people, is from a position of power, wealth, or influence. Sadly it is also the first place you’ll find evil, and corruption. The greatest evils have been those who held such positions, kings, prophets, warlords, nobels, politicians, and management.
If I’m remembering high school English class correctly, I seem to remember that Bankers have a special Circle, all to themselves. Please don’t neglect the Bankers when naming those who cause misery by the abuse of power.
“Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men, even when they exercise influence and not authority: still more when you superadd the tendency or the certainty of corruption by authority. There is no worse heresy than that the office sanctifies the holder of it.”
— Lord Acton
Did my post about Bankers get banned?
Anyway, I think your comics involving EvilOverlords are funny and almost, almost, every time I frighten the dog, laughing. Pinky and Brain made a career out of it! Think! They got paid to stand up on stage week after week and say the same line! So, it doesn’t get tired for me.
I have no clue why the filters grabbed your banker post, but I’ve approved it.
Don’t worry, I LOVE the evil overlord jokes.
me too! and i can´t wait for her to discover harry potter – i can so see her complain about the stupid mistakes voldemort made that caused him to fail. heck, it might inspire her own ‘evil over lord’ list
“Help and conquer”
Yes, that’s exactly how real-life despots justify their actions! Good work, Selkie!
As long as you keep the “benevolent” in “benevolent dictatorship”…
