And here is the first of the two reader-requested “where are they now” shorts. Hi, Jessie!
For those that don’t remember Jessie, she was the shoe clerk that appeared here.
I didn't realize until I was halfway through shading that my panel compositions don't actually SHOW that Alexis is propping her foot on the coffee table. Woops.
I’ve got a sinking feeling that Alexis is Andi’s sister. Please say it ain’t so, Dave.
I kind of got that feeling too. Still not sure how finally returning her phone calls counts as trying to sleaze back into her life, but perspective is wonderful drug of delusions.
If said sister is Andi, she could be spinning the story (or just leaving stuff out without thinking about it) to make herself more sympathetic. Or Alexis could be misinterpreting the situation.
That would follow the Law of Conservation of Detail. But at the same time it would put some more strain on the willing suspension of disbelief (y’know, more than a man adopting an aquatic carnivore). But it might also allow fan favorite Jessie more appearances.
On the whole, I’m against the idea, but not very strongly, and I can see why many wouldn’t find it objectionable.
I take it foot hygine is not Alexis’ strong suit? 🙂
Or maybe after a long day of sizing people’s feet, Jessie is sick of feet. =P
If I was her I would have bent her foot up to her face and said “You kiss them!” lol, but thats just me. I’m kinda mean when people put their feet in my face.
Even love has its limits!
It still totally made sense that they were on the table, your angles were suggestive 🙂
Love your comic, and I love seeing your art improve with each comic, like it does with many other webcomic artists on the web.
I’ve gotta make one critical remark though… Alexis’s leg looks REALLY weird in that last panel, like she has no knee!!!!
forshortening is difficult
D’awwww! 🙂
So I guess those two in the comic are lesbians?Or Bi’s?
I haven’t pinned down exact orientations, but their is a reference to their relationship here.
Ahem. *Grammarian mode engage*
There! Not “their”! THERE!!
*Grammarian mode disengage*
Apologies, but your characters and story deserve better…
That out of the way, great to see Jesse again. I’d hope to avoid Conservation of Detail here. It always seems more believable to me if not all characters in a strip have ties to each other like that.
Actually, Dave’s grammar was right. Their is possessive, there is location. It is their relationship
I think Wright meant that it should be ” but there is a reference”.
Also, “their” in this case would need to be “their relationship”, but since relationship was referred to earlier, it would now need to be “theirs”. So either way it’s still grammatically wrong. 😛
Ignore my last comment – this is what I get for hopping between computer and kitchen to see if my food’s yet ready. The first “their” should be “there”, as the relationship is referred to LATER with the correct “their”.
If you’re referring to the sentence ‘Sometimes I envy you, Jess. You never had to put up with guys and their constant drama’ Dave is completely correct with the usage of ‘their’. ‘Their constant drama’, their is possessive, there is a location.
Therefore, in all sense, their is correct. And it could not be theirs, because theirs is a form of the possessive case of ‘they’, used as a predicate adjective, after a noun or without a noun. I don’t mean to sound like a know it all. I just love English. Second language.
Oh my lord, thank you for this! I needed the laugh after those little girls breaking my heart for the past couple comics!
Shoe clerk lady! I remember her.
Yeah, I thought when I read the pages where shoe clerk first got introduced that shoe was a fat guy… my bad. But yeah, Yay, tubby shoe clerk who is into other girls girl. This should make for some more interesting stories.
OMG!!! TOE SOCKS!!!!!
I have some of those. They are solid white and I wear them with my running shoes… those five toe types. Man I love those shoes. Like wearing closed toed flip flops almost. Or moccasins.
I have the Vibram 5 Fingers too! Mine are the KSOs in black — I do everything from horseback riding to working in them. Best. Shoes. Ever.
Get rid of the coffee table and get a recliner-sofa and a couple of small end-tables. Works at my house! LOL
Cute page! I could never do toe socks. They kinda weird me out…
Toe socks are fun, except unless your toes are exactly like those of the model dummy, they start cutting off circulation to your toes before too long. For me at least. And also the colours tend to be contrasting (think red and green) bright colours.
I like to see Jess return to the comic, she sounds like someone I’d like to befriend (her getting in trouble with Walmart-like management for speaking her mind is proof enough XD). And I also like you for having courage to portray a lesbian couple in the comic. I’m still a bit sad about Todd not being gay after all. 😛
Who was it that said that a fandom isn’t a fandom unless there is some degree of homoeroticism? Lol
Would I be right in guessing that “Wool Mart” is a mash-up of “Woolworths” and “K-Mart”?
Ah, I remember Woolworths!
What I really regret is that the lyrics of “I can’t give you anythin’ but love” are definitively out of date.
As actual product placement and the stating of the names of businesses is kind of illegal without written consent; I would say that “Wool Mart” is closer to “Wal-Mart” than a mash up of two other stores.
And if you don’t know what Wal-Mart is… what, have you been living under a rock your whole life?
I really like this webcomic. I read the moments where Selkie or her Dad get all sentimental or have a flash back and it brings a tear to my eye. Very touching.
Very well done Dave.
Ah, I’d forgotten about Wall-Mart. We don’t have them over here (not everyone on the internet is American).
I don’t remember ever hearing about Wall-Mart from a non-internet source, so it’s not really the first thing that springs to mind.
We don’t have Walmarts either, but I’ve seen some documentaries protesting its spread, and of course that South Park episode. 😛
And it didn’t occur to me that Wall-Mart might have a shoe section either.
Hooray! Lesbians!
I’m curious: Do you ever intend to fill out the transcript fully, or are you just using it for alt-text? (If you decide to go back and remake any of these later/prep them for a book, it’d be useful~)
For now it’s just an alt-text substitute. I am curious though, how would the transcript feature help with bookmaking?
Depending on how you have them saved, it beats typing *shrugs*
Lettering for books is different from lettering for web, for example.
I think I had another point, but I can’t remember it for the life of me…
Yay! Lesbians! TvTropes was right about Jessie.
It doesn’t bother me seeing things like this in a comic
It bothers me seeing a bunch of comments praising how “brave” it is, and how they wish other characters were lgbbq or whatever too. Anything but straight
Claiming that guys make drama in women’s lives is like saying a dude makes the pool wet by going swimming in it. ^_^
