Just another little post-meeting confrontation.
-EDIT- Made some post-update changes to the strip, to fix a little wonky anatomy and make the stealth-agent-i-tentatively-refer-to-as-Waldo a bit easier to see since he was TOO stealthy on this color of backdrop.
Going in Trunch's head-space is weird.
That’s ridiculous Agent Brown…Selkie wasn’t allowed in the meeting!
I think Brown was referring to Selkie’s incidents with Truck.
That’s the joke 🙂
Expecting Sharks? Wonderful! They’ll make great lunch meats for Selkie.
I treat myself to shark fillet once a year, in memory of a distant past.
I do love the flavor and texture of it. In comparison, I dislike many fish flavours.
See, I tried seared shark one time and fund it bland and flavorless. But I guess I just don’t get it.
We need to show them whose boss. We can’t call ourselves apex predators unless we kill and eat sharks more often than they kill and eat us!
I’ve never tried shark though. I think a lot of them are endangered.
We already do. At least 100 million sharks are killed every year, 70% of that due to finning. By contrast, only 5 people on average are killed by sharks every year, and that’s mostly due to them bleeding out on the beach, not because they were eaten. Statistically, you’re more likely to be killed just by falling out of bed than by any sharks.
Here in Australia, most fish and chip shops sell gummy shark under the name of flake. It’s pretty good.
Ja, after you soak it in fresh water a few times to get all of the urea out of the meat.
Yes!!! Finally! Something actually happened to that son of a bitch! Yeah it’s good that he removed himself from the politics at the meeting and sat looking sorrowfull, but still, when confronted by Avery he still seems to think that he’s above apologizing and saying “I understand” like a normal person even through he’s directly responsible for Truck’s greenlight bad behavior and therefore the attack on selkie. However I noticed that he still took time to piont out that he supports wristbands not implants at the meeting, could it be that he was trying to put himself in a better light just in case his hand was revealed? And he was doing the same with keeping out of politics and looking sad? The first one’s more likely but the second two I guess are just paranio. Also I’m not going to sing that tune just yet.
Heh, the frenzy was quite necessary. Also, angry parents are scarier than sharks. The sharks would have hightailed it outta there in fear. Just sayin’. 😉
“Them” must mean the Sarnothi (not just Selkie and Todd. “Anymore” is a revelation, though. Trunch knows Agent Brown, clearly, and used to work for him. Verrrrry interesting.
Can we assume it wasn’t Prof Trunchbull’s fault that not more Sarnothi were scientifically examinated on lab tables (cf. https://selkiecomic.com/faq/comment-page-1/#comment-7626)?
I don’t see any invisible guys here…
Oh, there is one. :3
Good to know!
aaahhh that was great!
Under the window!
Something’s wrong with panels 2 and 4: all the adults look… stunted, somehow.
I penciled this one on an iPad instead of on paper or my desktop like I usually do, and it looks like I jumped in to outlining and coloring without double checking my anatomy.
Basically the arms are too short, and the heads are cartoonishly big.
What’s up with the shirt sleeves? Todd’s left sleeve ends at the elbow in panels 1 and 2. Been wearing a long-sleeve shirt all night.
Trunchbull’s left sleeve stops at the elbow in panel 5, but in 2 his right sleeve goes to his hand. Strips at the meeting show him with a long-sleeve turtleneck sweater.
Basically it looks like I drew the arms a bit too short (although in panel 1 he’s clasping Selkie’s backpack to his chest like he was in the strip prior, so we don’t see his entire arm from the rear-view). They are long sleeves, still.
Sharks?
I think I hear invisible Sarnothi sneaking through the script…
Well that confirms it, he was part of the original project that studied the Sarnothi those fishermen caught. And when it became a refugee situation, Trunchbull voiced his strong disapproval of allowing an apex predator the attempt to integrate into human society.
(hit enter too soon) … So now he blames the people he used to work with and around for not being as “forward thinking” as he is, and the people he used to work with have labeled him a xenophobe. He blames them for his loss of standing in the scientific community and he’s bitter because he’s *CONVINCED* he’s right and he’s the one being persecuted. Small wonder that attitude has been absorbed by his son.
Since it’s classified information Trunchbull isn’t about to share with his son Truck doesn’t have any of the context needed to understand that this attitude is directed at a specific situation and cannot be applied to the kids he interacts with at school.
That makes it a much more difficult behavior to address and correct.
I’m actually not being facetious here, but I can’t actually see the invisibly guy, if he is in this scene. I would expect him to be, given the wide shots and the fact that you did the backgrounds first, “because reasons,” but if you want us to be able to see him, could you PLEASE make his outline at least a LITTLE more noticeable?
I’ll double check the settings I used for the stealth-effect the last times and make sure they match, but to be honest I’m not going to promise significant changes regarding the visibility.
I like it being just barely there, because it always bugs me on TV when someone is supposed to be “invisible”, but the viewer can see shimmery light stuff plain as day. If it’s so visible to the viewers why aren’t the character’s seeing it, you know?
I cannot pick out anything in any of your backgrounds in this strip beyond a faint mottling that refuses to coalesce into anything I can interpret as a figure. Not even applying a 100% contrast layer in Photoshop helps. ‘Barely there’ is one thing, but ‘not there at all’ is making me feel I’m missing something you intended me to be able to see.
For what it’s worth, I was able to make out the invisible guy earlier. The settings may be the same, but perhaps because the background colour is different, or the invisible figure’s shape is more complicated, the result (for this viewer at least) is different.
Check the window, panel 2…You’ll see it.
‘That was nothing compared to what I did in the hall.’
I wonder what’ll wait for Selkie and Todd at their home – tanks in the street? snipers on the roofs? extremely inconspicuous men with dark sunglasses at every corner? And what’ll Agent Brown get to hear from his supervisor? I wonder what kind of message Selkie’s hairbow decided to send to whom (see #538).
Just a quick general note to supplement the edit note on the main commentary: I checked the strip on my phone and on two monitors at work (shhhh), and realized that even though I know exactly where “Waldo” is, I had trouble seeing him/her, too. As Sylvia Li said, it probably doesn’t work against these background colors at the settings I used. So I made “Waldo” a bit lighter and easier to see. Not a WHOLE lot because I don’t want the stealth-effect to stick out too much, but it’s a bit easier now.
Will Waldo become a tag?
In my usual battery saving phone setting I barely notice him even after I see him with a brighter setting. So I’ve probably missed him most times. If/when he’s revealed it’d be nice to go back and see his strips.
I do intend to tag his/her appearances once the identity is revealed. 🙂
Yep, the meeting itself was impeccable… his actions immediately after could have gone better…
I see “Waldo” now. Panel 2, standing behind Trunch, against the window. It doesn’t look like the same effect as before, just a faint green outline. But the green is the color of Sarnothi magic/tech.
