I totally don’t mind beta strips if that’s what it takes to get updates on time. ๐ It’s like seeing the bare bones version of a movie in the theater when it first comes out, then getting to watch the director’s cut at home on dvd. <3
Even though I feel like can’t wait to see the story continue, I know I could wait one update, if you needed more time to work on the awesomeness that is Selkie webcomic. Just put up some character doodle and we’ll be happy to wait. After all, you’re sharing this incredible story with us for free.
So, there still taking the high road with Tom the barbarian, yet going into stragegy with sueing the principal. This just makes me Sick, sick to my stomach that Mr. Trunchbull can get away with this while only Ashton gets punished, sick Sick SICK. I hope that Trunchbull’s behavior gets called to attention during the trial but then again he’ll most likely just slip out okay just like archetypical corrupt rich people do, while also hiding behind his stupid “I thought I was protecting my son” excuse. I’m not swearing cause I’m in my grandparents house.
To be fair, Trunchbull, when given proof, acknowledged his son was in the wrong. Ashton, however, hasn’t. And Tom is not a barbarian, he is an elitest bigot who has just been royally humbled. Todd took the highroad with Tom because he as a father knows the desire to protect his child and realizes that that’s what Tom thought he was doing.
Ashton, on the other hand, was only concerned about covering his own ass. And he said it many times. He even mentions that “Todd’s a nice guy and won’t do anything” and that’s why Selkie got punished for self defense. He punished a child for self defense so that when Truck told his dad he got kicked, Ashton could say that Selkie was punished, even when she didn’t deserve it.
The principal was willing to victimize a child to save himself stress. And then when he was questioned, he openly threatened people to make them quiet. If anyone is more the tyrant, it’s the principal. Because even when he was confronted about his wrongdoings, there was no remorse, no hint of apology. There was “I’m taking that cell phone” (which thankfully he didn’t do because Selkie handed it to Trunchbull) and then he blamed the victim.
And Trunchbull’s not getting away with anything. He learned his son was a liar, and that’s not going to be something easily recovered from. Because now there will always be that doubt of “Did he really do this? Is he lying to me again?”. Plus I have no doubt that a lot of people were not happy with what happened at Truck’s first school. The parents likely lost friends, time, and money. They lost more than one can think (lawsuits are not cheap). And also, Trunchbull seems like he would do the right thing if it came down to an actual court case. He’s seen the proof, and knows it exists, that his son hurt and made sick another child.
Not to mention, Truck is a child. And I have no doubt that he will be punished. But you can’t waterboard or put him in a cell. That’s overboard.
As much as I am happy to see these two get some planning time in, I am a little concerned that the PTA meeting will get squelched by the agents, or by other factors. In addition, 1-on-1 is one thing, bringing this up in the angry mob of parents who may favor Truck over a hideous monster (sorry selkie, not everyone is aware or tolerant). I hope some of the potential for Xenopobia gets discussed at the ‘planning session’. And kisses. Planning sessions need kisses.
I have a feeling a lot of the parents know about Truck’s behavior. He’s demonstrated that he’ll hit people before. And he already struck two kids this day in the comic and attempted to hit a teacher. I’m sure kids have made mention that Truck’s a bully, but he doesn’t always necessarily bully them, thus leading to inaction because the parents are trusting the school to take care of it.
Selkie’s case is one of extreme bullying. Most people assume she’s sick/special needs. And a LOT of people frown on that. So a concerned father, with evidence that Truck was bullying (b/c that will likely be prevalent again) and the kids also backing it up as they’re now all mad at Truck for getting them all in trouble, I suspect that many parents will not favor the bully. But Todd will also likely tell them that that situation is handled.
What Todd is wanting to present is the principal’s cover up. How can they trust their child will be safe at this school if the principal is willing to punish the victim to save his own skin? That’s the concern he’s likely to address and the one that will sway parents to his side regardless of personal opinions on what Selkie looks like.
I’m pretty sure that kids are not allowed at PTA meetings since that would kinda prevent the really juicy stuff from being talked about in front of the kids, ya’ know?… also, i think that not many parents have actually MET Selkie in person, so they may not actually KNOW that she’s radically different from “normal kids”, other than going by what their kids tell them. and I’m sure that some of those parents will just ignore the kids when they describe stuff about her that’s stranger than “normal”, so they’ll hear what they want to hear about her personally (she’s a special needs kid, etc, etc..,) and THAT bump will be over-ridden pretty darn quick, once they hear that the Principal threw her under the bus (figuratively) in order to get out of some hassle with Trunchbull, AND has been doing it MULTIPLE TIMES… Heck, he even got the Gym Teacher FIRED over it… yeah, i foresee him getting fired over this, if not actually thrown in jail due to the Cops getting involved now… we’ll see later how accurate our predictions are, that’s for sure!
a mina/todd relationship would probably be good for both of them (though selkie probably wouldn’t be thrilled about having her teacher around that much).however, things would get wild when the a(manda) bomb drops.
Selkie might not be thrilled to hear her dad is dating her teacher – but on the other hand, she could think “Does that means Iยดs gettings better grades nows?”
Todd, if you have any sense about you, LAWYER UP. You have no idea what Principal Hobbit said to that officer. Chances are he tried to throw you under the bus. Tell the officer if he has any questions you’ll answer them–AFTER you speak to a lawyer.
With any luck, he’s got Selkie’s phone with the video of Truck threatening Jessie, bragging about getting people fired… that, in conjunction with the call from the hospital, would negate anything the principal might have had to say.
Oh, lordy. Today’s comic is JUST up and I already can’t wait to see Friday’s!
Look! An interrupting ringtone!
Todd, if you’re going to be embarrassed by your general ringtone going off in public, maybe use a different general ringtone?
A strategy meeting, hmm? Over dinner, perhaps? Or just coffee?
Is what I thought as well.
Ditto.
I don’t mind the I uncolored strips at all, at least we get to see an update.
Sadly, he hasn’t agreed yet. HOWEVER, I am giggling with glee like Selkie confronted with revenge at the prospect of my main ship casting off.
This ship sails itself ๐
Same here, Dave.
A strip is a strip, and I remember you started out the first 20 strips with just this.
It’s a form of nostalgea ๐
I agree. And you know at times with Shards I am behind. I always post something, but sometimes it isn’t even a beta… You are doing great!
Oh man you just reminded me I forgot to check back on the last update. MG is being sneaky, it seems. :3
Oh hells yeah, Todd has a DATE!
*HONK HONNNNNK*
The ship has set sail from port!

Yeah same here Dave. I’m happy to get any type of update. It doesn’t have to be in color all of the time.
Seconded! Or thirded.

*Still* hasn’t changed that inappropriate ringtone, huh? (See Selkie #20.)
Now who’s being saucy and sly, Ms. Mina? X3
“Strategy Meeting”
Chicka Chicka Bow wow!
(Or so I can hope! Todd needs love too ya know!)
Panel 4: That’s* no problem.
Oh my gosh, this is gonna get good.
*cough*date*cough
*cough*probably right*cough*

“Selkie, your father and I are going to a movie. Have you done your homework yet?”
“Yeah, Sweety, done your homework yet?”
“OH GODS THEYS GANGINGS UPS ONS ME!”
well, there’ll be no lying about how much homework ACTUALLY got assigned versus how much homework she TELLS her Dad got assigned, that’s for sure!
Will you be bringing her to speech therapy with the De’Midea family, or are yous goings to keeps hers talks likes thats?
Is it just me or is Todd wearing a Star Trek shirt?
The cops want to talk to Todd.

Dex: “Yes, I have questions, like, did you know that because of Mr. Trunchbull’s ignorance, I have to arrest you and send Selkie to be vivisected?”
