The final damage number of George’s combo was 15 damage to each unit in the area.
Sage’s Elixir adds 3 to the Brains stat for one turn.
Goblin Gunpowder adds 2 damage to the next Explosive-type item’s damage.
The Doom Witch Grenade deals explosive damage equal to the player’s Brains stat plus 2.
What is the base level Brains stat of George’s character?
On the subject of the Haunted House game, I basically made up enough details to give the characters something to talk about, but from what's been presented, I don't think it would work well as a real-life game without a lot of tweaking. The most intuitive victory condition (attack the Evil Boss) is reportedly impossible without a full party of six, limiting smaller play-groups in their choices. And as George displays here, the Last Man Standing victory condition basically turns the game into an arms race of deceit and mistrust which can assassinate players from out of nowhere. (Geoge WAS going to save that nuke combo for the Baron, but well... he had to leave. XD)
12, same as my captcha question?
Nope, but that would be weird if it were. 😀
or 8 if i was better at math XD
Hmm, actually, I think it’s 6.
ack i didnt factor in the 2 gunpowder as i was only reading his comment
I’m going to say 8.
15 = 3 + 2 + x + 2
The way the cards interact is a bit of a red herring, there’s no multiplication.
I’m also going with 8. 15 – 7 = X And isn’t there some kind of rule against “Last Man Standing?” Although, I think it’d be awesome to see a regular game night with a group that mixed!
it’s a house rule, enforced by Mary. Mary has left the room to get George’s pants from the dryer.
8?
6, pretty sure it’s six.
6, 6+3(sages Elixer)+2,2 (Goblin Gunpowder)+2(DWG) = 15
He’s playing two Goblin Gunpowders, so that’s 4. Elixir is 3, and Grenade is 2, total of 9. Which means his Brains is 6 to make 15.
Base stat 4
Smart enough to kill the rest of the players. 😛
So George is an aspiring That Guy eh?
Ready the dice and PHB, this could one day be a conflict of epic proportions.
It would be awesome to see that game as a real one. I’ve always loved the board-game RPGs.
We love to play Betrayal:) TB has been working on his own boardgame which is a bit like it but adds more depth. Can’t say much about it yet. Good job, Dave! And, no I shall not attempt your maths.
Interesting. That much damage, and he’s only five steps away, and doesn’t catch it himself?
Five squares/hexes on a game board isn’t going to equate to five paces in the real world.
That should teach Selkie not to make George wet himself. XD
I would totally play this game.
To make the game fair even with lower numbers of people, you could have multiple versions of the Baron that have lower stats depending on how many people were in the game. That or just add a chandelier or two that you could drop on him or something…
You might enjoy Arkham Asylum, if you haven’t played it already.
15-(2×2)=11 (goblin gunpowders)
11-3=8 (Sage’s Elixir)
8-2=6 (Doom Witch Grenade)
Behold my mastery of basic mathematics.
It seems like a more… expansive version of Munchkin. Seems like it’d need some incentive to keep people from going last-man-standing, like overall scorekeeping where it’s worth less than another victory.
That said I *really* like the basics presented here… you could easily have a career in game design, kind sir.
George is going to be in trouble when he gets tattled on for doing Last Man Standing.
The rule of not being able to play Last Man Standing seems ridiculous. Why would you enforce such a rule?
Also I smell revenge for making him wet his pants.
Simple really, that was one of the game from the orphanages activity room, and the orphanage staff has seen too many fights and arguments between the kids when they do use that tactic, so they have since dis-allowed it in order to prevent those problems from occurring during game play… now that’s not saying there aren’t arguments and such over OTHER things in the game, but that one right there is a pretty big one I’d say.
Nice, good for him. +1 for being sneaky and getting her out of the room before doing it.
You know what’s unrealistic in this comic? That the kids were able to recruit four out of five adults to join the game! My experience has been that a typical response is either “That looks complicated” (a code phrase for “I don’t feel like learning anything”) or “No, you play, I’ll just watch” (even if there won’t be enough players now).
I’m a grown-up and I’d play that game at least once a week.
Well, one works with the kids, and already knows the game, two are in their mid/late 20’s (unless I’m mistaken) and that’s prime “play crazy board game” age, one is Todd, and the last is the cool old lady down the hall. I can totally see this group playing with the kids.
Side note: anti spam number was equal to the bonus brains/damage (so 9)
Growing up as as kid, I used to play GURPS with an entire group of adults. I guess it depends on who you know.
Hah! Cold all right, but that’ll teach ’em to underestimate the teddy-bear type!
The game sounds like something from my favorite store Game Nightz. Freaking love George at the end.
toooo tired from work all day to do table top rp math.
AND TODD HAS AN EPIPHANY AND REALIZES THAT GEORGE SHOULD BE SELKIE’S BROTHER.
YES they would be awesome siblings!
