I used the term “flashback” last time but while contextually correct, I think the word I was thinking of was ‘backlash’. >_>

Backflash would also be correct. But he’s trying to translate a Sarnothi term, it might take several tries to get a term that has the right nuances.
True. Sometimes we never get it right.
Darn it, forgot my example– “steampunk”.
Well Selkie, I guess the universe just wants you to have a cool haircut.
If I remember correctly, wearing her bow for so long could have caused some energy to be welled up in Selkie’s body. We’re probably seeing the adverse effects of that.
Not to mention the level of power she actually can tap into. She might be the world’s most powerful echo…. Especially if one of her abilities is to “create” more echoes.
Yeah, remember that Plo Quar (a powerful Echo herself) wasn’t expecting her to do much more than move Mr. Stoney, and got him exploding instead.
https://selkiecomic.com/comic/selkie1650/ and the strips following.
Even if she hadn’t been suppressed, Selkie’s baseline seems to be TERRIFYINGLY high.
* Lightly move Mr. Stoney, I mean. (And not even necessarily that much, just “tell me if he feels like it.”)
Appreciate the link. Saved me an archive dig because Mr. Stoney was the first thing I thought of when Pohl said that.
I find the first panel incredibly sweet.
This may also be a side effect of learning resonance on land as opposed to in the water. Flames would have much less lethality in the water than they would in air. It would be less likely to light things like hair on fire in the water.
I still think she could rock a cyber punk undercut with her initial buzzed in. Or even some Sarnothi markings.
