Minor suggestion – Todd’s speech bubble in the first panel makes it look like Selkie is shouting her name. If possible, maybe the tail should go over her head, pointing to the cell wall?
I just binged about 7 pages to get caught up and the last three literally made me laugh aloud.
Dave, your sense of timing/comic line delivery has continued to grow as the comic has gone on. I’m so glad I discovered it way back when and that you have kept writing it. It is a constant source of enjoyment.
If you notice, the voice on the loudspeaker has around what they’re saying. This is always been the way Dave has people speaking Tensei or Sarnothi, or whatever that language is called.
They’re not going to need translator, unless the local cops just happened to have that warning on a recorder so they can yell at any mer people they happen to see.
It’s not uncommon for a foreign language being spoken (foreign relative to the usual language of the text) to be represented by \ around the text, as if it were an HTML tag. Many programs that accept user text input will therefore respond to them as if they were HTML tags, and they will be hidden. Sometimes you can use an escape character to get around this. For example, in the Discord app, asterisks around a word are used to italicize, and thus will disappear, but if you really want to do forum style roleplay you can make them appear anyway using a backslash before each asterisk.
And yet it lets me use the exasperated ascii emoji. Anyway yeah I honestly had started to tune them out too but Tensei is represented by those pointy little guys in my emoji above. WordPress probably strips them on purpose to avoid abuse by malicious users.
To display <>, you type <>.
To display italics, you type <i>italics</i>.
To display bold, you type <b>bold</b>.
Or, you could use Unicode and just type ‹› 🙂
Formally, <> are less-than and greater-than signs, ‹› are angle quotation marks, ^ is a caret, and a carrot is a vegetable. Please do not eat your punctuation.
