We are now about 3/4 or 2/3 through this arc, depending on some decisions I have to make about the final scenes.
FYI.
I received a fantastic guest comic to show, and I’ve decided to air it on Friday so I can be available for last-minute wedding things. As for Monday, there will be an update but it’s content is up in the air since the weekend is going to be busy. So, check back Friday for a guest comic and on Monday for a mystery update.

Of course it’s going to come back to bite her. Now she has no input in the first story heard by an authority figure, and thus no opportunity for any spin control.
Yep, and how much you wanna bet he’s going to say it was all Amanda’s idea to harass Selkie, and Thomas took it too far. Or something similar. After all, Amanda and he did only throw snowballs. Just curious though, was there any surprises in those snowballs?
Knew a kid who would hide chunks of ice in them so that other kids would say he was throwing rocks in them, but none would be found by the adults.

I disagree. A traitor would have stayed around to make sure Tony got the blame. Amanda just ran, and to be honest, Tony’s a bit slow for not thinking of it earlier.
They might be in shock as to the current events, and as for Amanda being a coward instead of a traitor… yeah. I’d say it in french but I don’t know how:)
The word (coward in french) is “lâche”, my friend. It’s pronounce a bit like “Lash”, the “â” has to be pronounced with a downer tone. If that makes sense.
Oh Tony, you would’ve done the same thing given the chance and had you thought of it first. Every child wants to avoid trouble for as long as possible. It’s a completely normal reaction. Just like it’s going to be normal for Tony to automatically blame everyone else and say he didn’t do anything.
I’d be surprised if he didn’t blame Selkie and her friends, saying they started it and that Selkie upset Truck and he ended up taking things too far.
I doubt Tony will defend Truck. He and Amanda looked really disturbed when he took the bullying to a physical level, and then Truck threatened them both too. Amanda’s not the only one alienating people.
i notice that tony doesn’t look particularly surprised or shocked at amanda’s disappearing act. more like it was expected, but he hoped otherwise.

Honestly, I can kinda see WHY Amanda ran off… but that doesn’t mean it makes her any less of a traitor to her friends.

And getting into trouble more than three times usually comes with a more severe punishment, I remember clearly. >.< So she probably knew if she was caught then she'd be in more deep doo-doo than the last time she was punished. And heavens know what on Earth Lillian would do to her when she gets called!
Seriously. In high school, one of my brothers would get accused of starting fights, rooting them on, or something else because the deans always saw he was there as a witness, and he was the only ones who were never gone by the time the authority figures were there to break them up. Of course, over time the deans learned he was a good kid, and was just always in the wrong place at the wrong time and it always made him late to his next class. At least he'd do his best to give them a witness story as to what happened.
My brothers and I were good kids. We never got intro trouble if we could help it. 😛 Aside from my sophomore year suspension. But I spun that out earlier.
ANYWAYS. Yes, I can just see the logic as to why Amanda fled. I'm sure if my brother had the option of leaving before the fights were broken up he would have, but hey the mobs of kids that gather just to watch it take up a lot of space, so there was no route of escape. It wouldn't have hurt if he wasn't there, there were still tons of other witnesses. But they just didn't look as "suspicious" as he did. :/

I thought I’d comment on something funny I saw today since people were talking about 11 year old sociopaths on the last page. Today I went to pay off my pre-order of the new Animal Crossing bundle at GameStop. I witnessed a boy who couldn’t possibly have been any older than 6 years of age and his mother. The little boy proclaims, “Mommy, mommy look! That’s the new game I want! If you pre-order it I get a really cool shotgun!” Imagine my look of shock and disgust when the mother pre-orders the game right then and there.
You wanna talk about little sociopaths? That kid will be one, since he’s far too young to understand the difference between a game and reality at this point. Those games are are rated M for a reason. Such horrible parenting astounds me.
I believe the game was Splinter Cell, in case anyone was wondering.
I work at GameStop and I can’t tell you the number of five year old children who play FPS or other incredibly violent games. It’s maddening because we can’t do anything to stop it. We tell the parents exactly what’s in the game, and then get scolded for ‘Embarrassing them’ by making them look like a bad parent >.< Or they say that there are no other games but violent ones and ignore me when I show them otherwise. And then WE'RE blamed for corrupting the youth
Sorry, just hit a bit of a berserk button with me. Thank you for realizing the game was horribly inappropriate for the child. I wish more parents would.
I try not to let the spawn (he just turned 5) play anything terribly violent, or watch me play anything terribly violent… But rules get thrown out the door when he visits my Mom and my little sister (8 year age difference between the two of us; I’m the elder) and is allowed to play Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty, etc. I can’t protest without… Things happening to me. Well. Couldn’t protest.
Still, we walk into a game store and my son sounds very much like the child you described, and make me want to face palm and crawl under a display chanting “I’m a good parent, I’m a good parent…” to myself while he gushes about the plot line of the Assassin’s Creed game and how he intends to make a game like that but also with Portal, Angry Birds, and Batman when he’s older.
Still. It doesn’t mean that my kid or the one you mentioned will grow up to be sociopaths. You would be surprised at the age where kids can start to discern between “real” and “not real”. Particularly if the parent is taking time out to explain the difference, and that Video Games let you do things that you are Not Allowed to do in real life. I can’t say that letting kids play violent video games is irresponsible; it depends entirely on what else is going on there and the individual maturity level of the child. (Or if he is exposed to half brothers and step brothers who love playing TF2)
I have to agree with this. I have a cousin who is eleven now, but when he was younger (as young as seven or eight) I would let him play TF2 or other such games. And I know from my aunt that around nine-ish he was playing Call of Duty Black Ops and Halo at friends houses. It’s always contextualized as a fantasy, pretend. Not something to imitate in real life.
He’s a huge Warhammer fan these days. 😀
I have kind of the opposite situation. I have a 5 year old niece, and she monitors my game playing! I told her that she was not allowed to play M rated games because they’d scare her (Most of them would) and I don’t want her playing it. She read that somehow as it being stupid instead.
So I take her into gamestop and I’m looking at Bioshock Infinite and she tells me I’m not allowed to play because it’s a stupid game. When I asked her why she’s telling me I’m not allowed to play the game, she told me I was a kid and grinned. Then I laughed and got an old copy of Mario Kart.
Some kids, they may like violent games, but some stick to the family friendly ones. Important to find out if your kid is one of which group.
I’m expecting my first baby soon and me and my hubby already talked about the video game issue when it comes to our kids. We are both super geeky and love video games and anime and comics and stuff but we plan that our kids cant play video games till they are at least 6 when they start reading and even then they gotta start with the classics you know mario, zelda, kirby you know the good stuff before they move on to the more modern day stuff and trust me when I say I pay attention to those ratings my parents where always good about what games me and my brother played and we turned out fine. My parents where also good about playing with us even if they sucked we have a joke in our family that my mom is a blind jedi cause when playing a clone wars game she kept killing my brother and not the droids it was hallarious cause she had no idea where she was and was button mashing.
But yes you have to monitor video games the same as tv or books. God I was baby sitting this little girl 9 and she read some R.L Stine at school library and had her self a nightmare while I was watching her. I told her if she has the dream with the mummy again just cast Ridiculas on the mummy and make him wear the silliest thing she laughed and did it! she said he was wearing a tutu and had a big buddah belly and a big fluffy hat. Yes I used a harry potter spell but it worked!
First, it’s good to see that Selkie is still (somewhat) conscious and (somewhat) coherent. Second, given his response to Thomas’ state, it seems Paul has a great future as a high school or junior high P.E. teacher.

no kidding. where i went to high school, a gym teacher was also the football coach. a kid got injured in a game and, incredibly, the teacher tried to get him to “walk it off”. the injury was a compound fracture of his leg.
-.- Why the hell are people such idiots? My cousin BROKE HIS LEG at his (by now) old friend’s house, they couldn’t have cared less, made him wait outside for my aunt to pick him up while they sat on their asses and had dinner, and didn’t even help him walk when it was obvious he was in pain. Hell, it was so serious that he wound up needing SURGERY to get his leg to heal properly.
Yeah, try walking that off.
This has been one of the most emotional arcs of any comic I’ve ever read. I read through the entire arc tonight and it went from being cute and funny to giving me goosebumps. When Truck grabbed her I felt like I was kicked in the stomach and the fear only grew as Selkie’s complexion faded. I hope she’ll be alright and won’t need hospitalization (would the hospital even know how to treat her?).
I also hope (a bit meanly) the Selkie telling Amanda this was her fault before collapsing haunts Amanda whenever she closes her eyes. She needs to realize the consequences of her actions.
I also have a burgeoning dread of what happens when Amanda’s paternity comes out. It’s not going to be pretty for any one.
I think it’s funny the people here are saying gym coaches all have a “walk it off” mentality, all of the gum teachers I’ve ever had were the most understanding people I’ve ever met ^_^ I guess I just got lucky.
On another note, I hope Selkie will be okay, her colour was not looking good at all. Todd is not going to like this turn of events *at all*.
She should have used her spit-rash powers.
If Selkie does have to visit the hospital maybe they will encounter the fishman doctor seen in aprevious strip.
In regards to a bunch of the talk on young kids playing video games inappropriate for their ages… my parents let my brothers and I buy and play games rated T, and sometimes even M because we were the smart kids who knew not to repeat the bad words, and knew that they were just games, not reality. So I grew up watching my brothers play the Grand Theft Auto and Resident Evil games.
Besides, if anything they were more interested in the story lines and tasks at hand they had to do. And watching my reactions when playing Resident Evil 3, as Nemesis to this very day still scares the crap out of me.
And here I thought I saw her bite him.
