In truth, Amanda’s actually been up for about four hours by this point.
Do I have any Selkie readers in St. Louis? Because I am showing an illustration in the Art St. Louis gallery, and the reception is this Saturday, from 6-8pm. If you’re in the area, stop by and say hello!
Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.
I think I’ve said this before, but if not I’ll say it now: Andi looks better with her hair down. I approve. 🙂 *thumbs up*
That said, neither Andi nor Amanda are happy campers at the moment. And it looks like Heather is still mad at Amanda. :\ How long until things spiral downwards? ><;;
Looking forward to the next update! ^^
Nice to see Andi’s un-fixed-up hair for once. That’s actually more appealing than I expected, really.
How is it that the type of color she uses doesn’t even stay at all? All my experience with colored hair is that whatever coloration you use, it overstays its welcome. (My hair is currently at the tail end of my purple stage, working its way back toward the blond it had to become in order to get dyed berry-colored back for Halloween.) Does there actually exist a dye that lasts a single day and goes away entirely?
And for that matter, how does she manage strong dyes without bleach?
Andi uses a “wash-in wash-out” dye so she can change colors easily. Since she’s a red-head her hair color is light enough to let the color show through.
Stylistic simplicity is also a factor, to be honest. It’s easier this way rather than keeping track of a spattering of strands with washed-out color.
🙂 Yeah, I know even the laws of physics have to bend to being able to draw it okay. Heck, even Disney did that (with at least one shot in Frozen — Elsa’s hair goes straight through her arm, because the alternative looked horrible and they didn’t want to take the time to make a better version).
I didn’t know red hair (like, strongly red hair) was light enough for dyeing purposes. Interesting.
I wouldn’t be surprised if she also uses colored gel to keep her hair up.
I’d wondered about that myself, I’ve been dyeing my hair for years. I hate to be all “but that’s not how it works” but… even red hair (or especially red hair) will show through the colors in hair dye, they are much more akin to water-colors in that whatever they are laid over will show through (trust me, I have very dark hair naturally and if I miss even one little spot bleaching the color won’t show up).
Maybe she uses hair chalk?

Check out the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5ZeYpyPZOY I ran across a couple of these types when researching ombre dying techniques the other month. Spray in and instant perfect color!
I “dyed” my hair red for Halloween (I was Jessie) and it washed out that night with some effort. It was that spray-paint stuff. It feels like a flocked Christmas Tree when it’s on your head, but since it’s just her bangs, and she twists them to a point anyway, I can see that being what she uses.
Hah Andi’s bedhead is great. No seriously, if her hair was brushed and fixed a little bit it’d look super cute down.
After the little stunt Amanda pulled when she left the orphanage, I’m surprised Keisha is even speaking to her.
Do you mean her leaving without Keisha? Lillian explained to her why it wasn’t possible for her to leave with Amanda, I’m quite sure she’s accepted the reality of the situation. It’s stark contrast to the way the both of them reacted to Heather’s adoption, but I’m pretty sure that 90% of their anger was more because of the fact that she didn’t say goodbye to them before she left. Especially after Keisha’s reality check from Selkie in the principal’s office, I would be very surprised if she reverted back to that point and tried making Amanda miserable just because she was fortunate enough to find a family.
I think they’re referring to when Amanda said something like ‘I’m sorry she didn’t want you’
Pretty much, I don’t think Amanda really understands just how insensitive her comments were.
Ahaha, Amanda got consequences from her alarm clock stunt
sorry girl this is literally your own fault in all the ways
Wow, you can FEEL the frustrated venom in Andi’s voice in her first sentence here. It’s amazing.
Never having been a little girl with earrings, I can certainly be wrong here. But I thought brand-new earrings stayed in ALL THE TIME, even in the bath or in bed, to make sure the holes healed as holes, and didn’t try to close back up?
Referring, of course, to Amanda’s naked lobes.
Amanda’s earrings are already pretty magical, but IIRC from when I briefly had my ears pierced, that’s just for the first few weeks or so. Not sure how much time has passed since she got them pierced, but maybe she can take them out now?
I didn’t notice she had earrings until a short while ago, but given her age they could be clip-ons. According to Google, it only takes six weeks/a month and a half before you can take the first stud out of a new piercing.
They’re not clip-ons. It was specifically mentioned in the story, after Amanda was reclaimed one of the first things she did with Andi was get her ears pierced.
When I got my ears pierced at 7, we did it a month before my 8th birthday so I could change them exactly on my birthday.
Nice seeing their “bed heads” 🙂
Dave> Congrats on the exhibition!! I wish I was local just for that!!
Her hair looks so much better than that other ridiculous look she usually has.
Such a look of horror from Keisha(?)
^_^
I LIVE IN ST. LOUIS!!!! Yay!!!!!! And I have some art there being shown so I was gonna go any ways!
That’s awesome! 😀 I’d love to meet you.
