The emotive pigtails are a "visual cue for the readers that characters in-universe don't outright notice" thing. If they were, she'd have a bad poker HEAD.
Okay, I’m starting to get more of an understanding for Keisha’s personality here. In past storylines she’s mostly been eclipsed by Amanda and Heather, so I value this insight.
While I don’t doubt that Amanda’s gonna mess things up with Keisha at some point down the line, “I’ll poke YOUR face” doesn’t read as a serious threat at the moment, just the sort of banter that goes on between arguing friends.
I’m sure someone will get hit again somewhere down the line, or threats a lot more dire than face poking will be made.
I routinely make threats like that to my friends. None of them take it seriously and they make the same threats to me. Amanda can be violent no doubt, but not everything has violence attached to it.
While Keisha’s feelings are understandable, I really don’t think this can lead to anything good. Amanda is a bully, and she has yet to show any sign of empathy to anybody. Sure she’s “sorry” but is she sorry because she hit her friend or sorry because she didn’t get away with her behavior? I honestly can’t tell with her, she seems to care more about possessing “friends” than she does about actually being a good friend, making her selfish and pig-headed at best. And despite that, she made this situation by herself, and she knows it. Until she develops some sense of responsibility she deserves what she gets in my opinion, and it looks like Kiesha’s gonna be dragged along for the ride.
I don’t know. Sure, as readers we may feel that isolating Amanda and leaving her friendless would be a richly deserved punishment. But I don’t think it would result in her learning a lesson and becoming less violent. It would just paint her into a corner and leave her feeling that violence was the only option she had left.
I am pretty sure that Keisha will be a good influence on her — no longer a follower, but a friend. And Keisha has learned. A good friend tells you when you’re about to screw up. If Amanda tries to make it “help me get even with fish face AND Heather or you’re not my friend,” Keisha is not likely to go along with that any more… so at that point it’ll be Amanda who’s facing the choice.
Actually, Keisha staying with Amanda will also prevent Amanda from learning anything. In these strip they have aleady written off heather as ditching them. Keisha has backed up the idea that heather is most in the wrong simply because heather’s was first. Keisha is still a follower, excusing Amanda from the need to apologize.
Lol, Gis’s braids flying up in shock at Heather’s approach.

On this page Amanda says: I’ll poke YOUR face!
On the last page Heather said: She’ll hit you too, Keisha.
If Amanda feels like it… she’ll hurt you, too.
So, how many pages is it going to take before Amanda loses her last friend?

Yep. It would probably be better for all three girls if Keisha had gone along with Heather.
I feel a little bad for Keisha, she probably took Amanda’s side so Amanda would have a friend. :3
The link in your comment doesn’t have anything to do with Mark, or poker… 🙁
That’s Mark in panel 3. He didn’t get a lot of screen time.

Wasn’t Amanda originally mad at Heather because she was being protective? Is there evidence for whether she was being possessive or worried?
