It’s going to be a bad week for Amanda.
Well, yes, Amanda, it is kind of fair actually. Better you learn this lesson now than later. It might result in a little character growth?
No-one can free-hand straight lines. We can only approximate them. 🙂

Maybe meeting Andi could be good for Amanda. I’m curious as to whether the Andi-haters also hate Amanda? She is a conniving lying brat and a bully, has done not one nice or good thing that we’ve seen. Andi is at least (belatedly) trying to make up for her mistakes.
Why would they have to be Andi-haters?
Whatever else happens, even if Andi has the best intentions only, her appearance is going to add… complications to Amanda´s life. She´s going to have to come to terms with having been abandoned by her birth mother – not to mention the fact that, legally speaking, “fish face” is now her half-sister.
I, for one, look forward to seeing both of Andi and Amanda experience some character development.
I don’t like Andi, does that make me an Andi hater? I don’t like her because from what we have been shown thus far is that she is insensitive towards adoption and has been trying to force her way back into Todd’s life. That being said I approve of her trying to find out what happened to her baby that she gave up. I believe it may just make her a better person. Now onto Amanda; I really don’t feel sorry for her on anything. She has only shown herself to be a spoiled self centered child. As a victim of bullying as a child and having experienced going to the hospital for stitches and treatment for a concussion I am firmly opposed to those that enable/allow and or cause the bullying of others; Amanda indirectly along with her friends let the rest of the class know that it was fine to bully selkie.

Your freehand lines are far straighter than the ones I did in an geometry exam back at school.
I had my hand in a cast, broken just a few days before, so handling a ruler was literally a pain. Therefor I decided to restrict it to the important parts, e.g. triangles, while drawing all those less important sets of axes freehand.
It has been my worst math exam ever (although still mediocre on a general scale), although my teacher was very nice, turning every available blind eye on my freehand drawings.

I rather like the life imparted to the backgrounds by those not-perfectly-straight lines. They’re straight enough, and I feel they fit your drawing style better.
I was a math major. Your lines are straight enough. Them being a little wiggly just makes it more realistic. After all, most schools are made of not-very-straight brick walls. Edges of roads are never perfectly straight, they have bumps. Wood fences made by hand are not very straight, and metal fences made by factories get bumped out of shape by all kinds of things. True straight lines occur very rarely in the real world.

If you drew your characters as stiff geometrically perfect stick figures, Dave, ruler-straight lines in the background would be fine. But they’re not that. They’re not photo-realistic, either, and not meant to be. The living “straight lines” in this current strip’s background match very well with the expressive variations you use in eyes, eyebrows, mouths, hair, hands, and postures.
I get that you like to experiment with different approaches, and maybe a ruler is quicker and easier for you. So all I’m saying is that I personally really like this effect better.
