Well, it IS a bit suspicious, you know – young man, unmarried, in looking to adopt a child. They probably see woman occasionally, but a man? That has to be pretty rare. She has to be thinking … “Is this a Bruce Wayne looking for a Dick … Grayson? Or … is it legit?”

The only reason you might see fewer single men than single women adopting children is that most men are now petrified of being labelled a sex criminal on some woman’s idle whim, and having their entire lives destroyed over one empty accusation.
Most men want to be fathers too; paternal instincts exist!
Hi there, I saw Katy’s comment and always wondered…isn’t that kinda impossible if you’re a single male 20yr old adopting a female kid? No offense intended but that’s a pretty disturbing thought that I actually considered once since I have no intention of seeking a partner…oh my listen to me ramble here but yes, isn’t this…y’know….impossible?
I remain aware while writing the comic that the ease of acceptance Todd encounters is an almost fairy-tale level of unreality. But I’d rather have that then turn the comic into my own “struggle for social equality” soapbox. ^^
Looking back at it, and reading the caption, I had the impression that Mary was showing an interest of a different sort in Tedd. Again, that was on the second read through.
Some people just have a problem with the idea of someone not following the usual paint-by-numbers pattern. You graduate, you get a job, you get married, you buy a house, you pop out 2.5 children.
Go anywhere out of order or skip a step and suddenly everyone is looking to put you back on the right track.
I’ve got much respect to those who go for adoption rather than spawning more humans into this craphole of a world.
And in counterpoint, I have much contempt for the system that makes it so absurdly difficult to adopt kids in real life… not least because they hinder those actually trying to do the decent thing while those who take the abhorrent path of spawning yet more victims for this planet are pretty much encouraged to do so, utterly unhindered.
If I was a mote more normal I’d probably try to adopt too… but as it stands I’m entirely too mentally unhinged to take responsibility for anyone besides myself.

That was one of my thoughts when writing this one, actually: a single guy looking to adopt probably raises a few eyebrows.
Maybe once society drops its obsession with paedophilia, people will stop thinking the worst of each other. =/

Just so you know, I love how you draw expressions. Second to last panel is my favorite!
Thanks!
