It’s incredibly inappropriate, but that was part of the joke. There’s a old movie called Born Innocent where a 14 year old school girl is taking a shower and a bunch of other girls come into the shower and hold her down and attack her.
Well it’s your comic Dave, no one said you had to go that route, it’d be equally cool to see something like from Full Metal Jacket, where they have the socks stuffed with bars of soap and just wail on the guy.
Not everyone can laugh at everything. That’s fine. You and I held a perfectly reasonable conversation and I don’t mind you editing my stuff to avoid conflict with other users who frequent the site.
Omg The internet needs more people like you. Actually, the world needs more people like you…or at least your reasonable and understanding way of thinking. Like, I seriously smiled reading your comment.
I know of the scenes you talk of and that would be frightening in any situation. Dang it now I got the scene from Shashank Redemption in my head….Why do I see Amanda with a black eye and chip tooth coming out like “you should see the other two” ….oh wait that was me in elementary school. I feel for her I really do because she feels lost and confuse and like no one wants her. She’s Todd’s baby too isnt she.
They think they’ve just heard information they can use against Amanda, who was instrumental in “tricking” Truck into almost getting in trouble for no good reason. That’s why they’re smiling.
(Didn’t you go to school? Kids are jerks. Not you when you were a kid, obviously. I’m referring to all those other jerk kids.)
Meanwhile, in reality, there’s dozens of ways trying to use this info will backfire on them, but that doesn’t necessarily help Amanda in the immediate future, who is desperate to keep a lid on it. On the positive side, she really can’t be mad at Selkie or Heather for this any longer because she’s the one who was shouting about her secrets in the restroom.
i got curious and looked it up, its easier to sit through muted. im actually quite impressed with the director on this one, those are some seriously tricky shots to pull off without showing things they dont want to, while still showing things they do want to. i cant even imagine how many takes that took O_O
the actual attack reminds me of the natsu bully scene in a manga called Skip Beat. that one is thankfully fake, but it looked alot like this one.
Poor girl, I always felt so sorry for her- she’s got all the signs of a good kid inside but the system has messed with her head. She’s all self destruction, every time she picks on someone else it comes back to her in some awful way.
She just needs some love.
What she needs is a thorough examination of cause and effect. She needs love and someone to explain that taking anger out on others will only push those others away. No matter how close you once were.
I think one thing she needs is just to have someone sit down and say nothing. Just listen to her. Allow her to say everything that’s on her mind without judgement or bias. Let her get everything off her chest and then tell her afterwards that in the end, it will all be ok and that she is not only not alone, but she’s stronger than she thinks.
A good person can’t be good if everyone constantly calls her a monster. Speaking from experience there.
True, but in her emotional state, and any emotional state she can easily misconstrue what she get’s told. People overreact all the time and a young girl with abandonment issues is going to hear the worst thing unless you can calm her down.
When she acts like a little monster she deserves to get called out on it. As someone who spent their childhood being a victim of someone just like Amanda, I have zero sympathy.
Well, at least now we know these girls aren’t vampires. (No, the scenes outside in daytime do not count as evidence. Too many different myths have explainations for vampires not burning in sunlight. The lack of reflection is actually far more widespread an idea.)
I don’t know who to feel more bad for Amanda or the kids that are going after Amanda. I can see Amanda going from WTF to RAWR very quickly soon, but I could be wrong. Not to say Amanda is generateed a ‘win’ but I think there’s a chance she’d fight back. However on the other hand two vs one can get ugly since it’s possible between them that they could imobilizable her. (And as usual I can not spell words today).
I dunno about anyone else (haven’t read the other comments yet) but I for one am glad to see this much human emotion from Amanda. Sure she isn’t the best friend in the world, but I can see she has very deeply-rooted psychological trouble because of her past.
Getting a reaction like this is a good sign, to me. At least she’s not as bad as Truck. The only emotions we’ve seen from Truck is anger and superiority. Which makes him a little more doomed, if you ask me.
Took me a moment to recognize that as a reflection, especially since Amanda turned around… Might be useful to put a 10% grey over reflections, to show the mirror. Real mirrors aren’t perfect :J
(Although this may only be because I’ve messed with raytracing, and spent long minutes staring at mirror textures trying to figure out what’s wrong O:J)

Eek! I’m scared for her.
Oh dear.. This doesn’t look good.
I thought I saw someone in the stall earlier.
I hope it’s like the bathroom scene from Born Innocent.
Scared to google that. XD

…Ew.

Now that scene I’m familiar with. I’m glad my Basic Training flight mates were completely unlike the ones in the movie, because I was totally Pyle. XD
Jeremy, I am going to edit your comment a little to reduce some “trigger” issues. I hope you understand.

Much appreciated. đŸ™‚

Todd doesn’t know that.
Wow, you’d think they wouldn’t be smiling after hearing -any- of that, I worry about these kids : all of them.
They think they’ve just heard information they can use against Amanda, who was instrumental in “tricking” Truck into almost getting in trouble for no good reason. That’s why they’re smiling.

The first step is admitting something’s wrong.
Do you think she has?
I think the fact that she’s asking “what’s wrong with me?” – out loud – may be a start.
You were smart not to google it, I think I need mind soap.
I did end up googling it. You can borrow my soap. It’s pineapple.
Dunno about mind soap, but I’ve got some brain bleach & mental floss…

wait what scene i don’t remember that happening in skip beat
just the attack, not what follows. the “level 5 play” scene.
I am so glad I was able to expose so many people to such wonderful content. My life is complete.
Her pigtails remind me of a dog’s ears. I can’t help it.
I agree. Especially how they deflate between panels 4 and 5.

Explaining why her actions are driving people away is not calling her a monster.
True, but in her emotional state, and any emotional state she can easily misconstrue what she get’s told. People overreact all the time and a young girl with abandonment issues is going to hear the worst thing unless you can calm her down.
Also worth pointing out Selkie was put through worse (by Amanda) and turned out kinder (even if relatively paranoid)
Yep.
When she acts like a little monster she deserves to get called out on it. As someone who spent their childhood being a victim of someone just like Amanda, I have zero sympathy.
If Amanda’s mother goes forward with her plans to use her as a pawn in a relationship battle, Amanda’s head is going to get messed with even worse.
Well, at least now we know these girls aren’t vampires. (No, the scenes outside in daytime do not count as evidence. Too many different myths have explainations for vampires not burning in sunlight. The lack of reflection is actually far more widespread an idea.)
I’m about to make you an offer you can’t refuse.

It may just be me but the first speech bubble in the second panel seems squished and looks a little blurry due to the distortion.
And right on time, the universe has delivered Amanda’s well-deserved beatdown.
Ruh-roh.
