While drawing this strip I sustained myself with chocolate cake and Diet Mountain Dew.
I don’t make good life choices.
Speaking of sad things, there is a 50/50 chance of no comic on Thursday. I have the next strip half-penciled, but my brother is getting married this weekend, so Glob only knows what will pop up.
-EDIT- I am going to go ahead and confirm no comic for Thursday, and most likely not one next Monday either. It’s an out-of-town wedding, and a few additional pre-travel necessities have reared their head. Instead, I am going to work out some sketch-day fillers. Sorry to get your hopes up.
I'm enjoying the chance to do more with Mary, as I feel she's been in Lillian's shadow up to now, character-importance wise.
Poor Todd. He can’t really be that dense, can he?
*HUGS* selkie is so cute! and yes todd is pretty dense.
Yay for your brother and he completely forgot about grownup foodies
hahhaha she so set Todd up on that one.
Also grats on the new family member!
Love the “Plop” dude.
Who/What is Glob?
I checked Wikipedia and got several results, still wondering which one is the Glob you are worshiping.
It’s an Adventure Time nod.
Wait, part of adoption proceedings typically is a at-home inspection/interview. Someone from the agency would *have* to know about the mansionesqueness of the Fairweather home.
It oughta be in Heather’s file, at least.
A social worker would look into the house, not a foster parent or agency worker who is running a group home.
Usually the address and condition of the home are what goes into the file, not if it’s a mansion. They want to make sure the child has their own room or at least a room not being shared with someone too much older than them, access to food and water, and that the suroundings are clean.
Also, the social workers actually have very little time. They check boxes that the house was clean, safe, and appropriate and that money is not going to be an alarming issue then focus on the parents. Usually that is “why adopt? Were you adopted? Any history of mental illness? Any history of criminal behavior? Family income. Number of people in household. SS# for background checks.” Since Heather is out of the traditional adoption age (under 7) her social worker probably didn’t drag out the interview too long because at that point they just really want kids to find homes.
Plus, a lot of times the caretakers do not have the files for each kid. Those are kept with the social workers. They might have their own files on the kid, but traditionaly they do not have much else.
– My mom was a foster kid.
– My cousin adopted.
– I shadowed a social worker for a book I’m writing.
– And I have a friend who was a foster mom.
I think it depends on the locale. In Northern California the folks that worked for my dad did make visits out to prospective foster homes and adoptees. I know *for a fact* that the results of those visits went into the files, because some of the places my dad’s office used deteriorated over time and they were able to use the documented state of the foster home to show that the care was suffering.
Well it’s taken over 2 years to have a month of comic time, so skipping two updates is really only like skipping a few minutes. 🙂
Archive binge complete! Yay!
I like George and Selkie’s delight-exchange in being excited for each other’s favorite snack.
I doubt that’s true. George only got excited because there were “chicken nuggets” on the plate and as there’s only chicken nuggets on the plate he could be said to be excited over what’s either side of the plate. Selkie OTOH is clearly excited about the “cheesy ones” which would be the yellow ones Todd pointed out. The brown ones would be the standard ‘breaded’ nuggets which Selkie would not enjoy.
Still a snack is a snack!
Panel 3 and 4 his face kind of fluctuates a bit there doesn’t it?
That’s Todd: so focused on providing for the kids that his and his adult visitor’s needs got kinda sidelined. I doubt she’ll hold it against him, even if he doesn’t have something else handy.
Thanks for the heads-up about the missed update, but please never think you need apologize for having a life. Family is important; congratulations to your brother and his partner.
Glob giveth, and she taketh away.
😀 Have fun at your brother’s wedding!
I had the option of putting myself up for adoption when I was 14, but by that time, I KNEW it would be no easy thing, so I opted to be put into the state system instead….. now at 24 I’m glad I did.
