Just a heads up, I am doing another Sketch Day Saturday this week. When it rains it pours, eh? This one is League of Legends themed. A while back I sketched Selkie as Heimerdinger, this next one is a different character dressed as a different League champion.
I’ve been thinking of some fun Selkie character/League Champion combos, this sketch subject may become a theme. 😀
Heather's happy face in the central panel was the first thing I inked, before I even set up the panel borders. <3
I love Heather’s happy face as well. Let’s hope her enthusiasm either rubs off on Selkie a bit, or else they get to have a heart-to-heart about why exactly Heather nicked her shirt.
Is Heather wearing socks outside in her excitement?
It is highly likely, yes. And I have a feeling that ‘fun’ will ensue, whether Selkie wants it to or not. 😀
@Jade: Most likely. Barb should probably go buy some more socks.
I want to see these combos. I’m surprised I haven’t been matching them up myself, actually.
Ha, I knew Heather and Selkie would eventually play together. Of all her classmates that aren’t her friends yet, Heather seems to be the best fit for Selkie.
It seems Heather /really/ likes playing outside. X3
Heather has rape face on when she asks selkie “do you like to play outside”
It’s more of an “I’m so excited I could pee myself” face. 🙂
What on earth is “rape face”? O_o

also, google image search “rape face”
although this is my fav

Apparently I’m too oversaturated with manga and anime to think exaggerated expressions to be anything out of the ordinary. 😛
It’s a figure of speech referring to a look of egger intent. It usually used in an aggressive or competitive way though. Basically is an extension of ‘Raping the competition’ which means defeating someone severely often humiliatingly.
I am imagining this scenario the next day:
Heather: Can Selkie come over after school? Can Selkie stay for dinner? Can Selkie have a sleepover? Can Selkie have a WEEKEND sleepover?!!
Selkie: If you get to play all the other positions on the soccor team simultaneously, I get to pick what position I’m playing.
Heather: But….
Barb: Heather…
Heather: Absolutely, Selkie! Just name it!
Selkie: Spectator!
But wait, Selkie has new shoes!! Do you suppose Heather in her socks has a sufficient handicap against Selkie in her new shoes? Given how good Selkie is with a ball I don’t think she needs a handicap!
I like that little shot of Selkie’s ear when she is being hurricaned outside of the house.
Speaking of handicaps, did Todd and Selkie remember to bring her gill-flushing stuff?
Err, you mean water? It’s not really a special or rare chemical. It might have needed to be distilled water, but that’s still not much of an impediment. And she doesn’t need to breathe water all that often, so I doubt it will be an issue.
She can´t use tap water; she´d need something to treat it – or Todd will have to explain to Ken and Barb that Selkie needs several bottles of table water and has to use the bathroom for a moment.
As for all that often, the gym episode seems to show that she needs to do it more often if she exerts herself… which she would, playing soccer with Heather.
I know Todd is a Architect but I wonder if he has any experience with engineering or any engineering friends. It would be awesome to see if they could rig together a type of rebreather for Selkie and maybe some some of water tank and mask she could use for being highly active on land.
Well, she can breathe air fine, as long as her gills are moist. And how would she speak if she was wearing a rebreather?
Yea but her gills dry out quickly when she’s active so trying to rehydrate while on the run would be troublesome. Also sound travels in water, how else would her species speak underwater, she can breathe in through her nose for the gills so it could easily just be hooked up to her nostrils and not her mouth. But I suppose some kind of humidifier or mister could also work as long as it didn’t mess up her vision or interfere with other players.
Just wondering, how good a tree climber is Selkie?
And now, with the kids outside, the grownups can talk.
Todd needs to use his insight (from being an orphan himself) to fill the Fairweathers in on why Heather did what she did and why he’s not going to hold it against her, or them.
It hasn’t cropped up in comments yet, but someone will ask. Ungrounding her to play with Selkie is a typical parent move. My mom would do it to me, my friends parents would do it to them. It’s less a reward and more of a “You’re entertaining this person for us” move. Of course my mom was careful who I was ungrounded for after one of her friend’s kids purposely broke one of my action figures and I pasted him in the jaw for it.
I love this comic so much – just have to let you know. I’ve never posted on any comic before, but I find the characters in this one so engaging, and the story very sweet. Your updates are always a bright spot in my day. 🙂
I may possibly like Heather even more than I like Selkie; she’s so cute.
