Actually; it is interesting that they’re leasing and not buying. That purposeful.
I think they’re worried about Cern looking to accuse America of something. Either because it would be, the government snatching his echo citizens, or because they’re hosting people who should be punished as criminals. Probably both angles at once.
So, its not the American Government has accepted them as refugees in the normal sense. Its that there’s this nice old man, who happens to have a sarthoni granddaughter so he’s just a friendly old gentleman, who’s offered to let these people stay on his farm.
Sure the government might have helped them pay for it, but the government isn’t caring for them directly. There is plausible deniability.
If I’m understanding correctly, they’re offering to rent the farm, not buy it outright. So they’re probably offering considerably less than its full sale value.
Possibly half for the other sister? Seems odd to have a number already split in half when the ownership of the farm was only clarified a few minutes ago.
I laughed and I laughed when I watched this scene. Deus ex corpora has rarely been done better.

I’m curious about how many zeros are in that pay day.
a LOT
its the government with a weapons program. Lockheed martin and raytheon do not play small.
Apparently a little more than double the farm’s worth, since he initially considered the amount a low offer.
Proably a bit less than double. If Theo considers it low-balling, then the offer is more likely to be just below market value.
If they’re leasing, not buying, then that’s a very nice offer. Add the no-taxes thing and it’s… well.

Money might not solve every problem… but LOTS of money can solve *almost* everything
“Your half”?
Who would be getting the other half of this farm rental agreement?
