And sixty years from now, surrounded by great-grandchildren and proudly displaying their congratulatory hologram from King William (or George), she’ll turn to him… and say the exact same thing.
It’s certainly a touchy issue, but it’s also an undeniably significant facet of pop culture over the past couple decades, and it’s gonna be part of pop culture references for a long time.
It sucks that that’s now tangled up with the creator’s public statements that have hurt a lot of already marginalized people, and have contributed to further disenfranchisement.
At the same time, I don’t think it’s fair to try to get all creators everywhere to stop referencing a story that influential. It’s like telling us to stop referencing Star Wars or Buffy the Vampire Slayer — they’re part of the social hive mind now, regardless of how far off the rails their creators go.
Eh, I don’t care what anyone else says, Rowing is entitled to an opinion as much as the next person. If you can’t separate the author from the works, that’s your problem.
I love the HP universe and I’m not going to stop just because some people get upset about her opinion. I live Jackson’s music even though there’s a debate he may have been a child abuser.
Personally your response to a content creator over an easter egg isn’t reasonable.
I think the issue with Rowling is a bit different from Jackson. I mean, I’d certainly feel differently about enjoying Jackson’s music if he were still alive and the YouTube ad revenue was helping him spread a message that directly led to further abuse.
I’d also feel differently about enjoying HP merch if Rowling were already dead and her opinions were a matter of history — instead of currently making life harder for trans people, by using largely discredited arguments which assert that trans people having the freedom to use public restrooms is somehow harming the people who *don’t* get harassed for using public restrooms.
(No, I *haven’t* been hearing transphobic arguments from a close family member pretty much daily for months now, why do you ask? Sigh.)
Weddings are always a pain in the ass, but I partially blame wedding culture on this as well. People get ridiculous about weddings.
I became a registered minster a couple of years ago to marry a friend and his now wife and I think they had the right idea. There was no expectation on clothing or anything like that.
The ceremony happened as folks sat around and drank coffee and ate.
On the flip side I had another friend who was asked to be a brides maid and then was told she had to recolor her hair and cover her tattoos.
I’ve always had the opinion that you invite people you love and want there. You don’t ask them to change for a special event that focuses entirely on you.
Horde and Alliance players had their text scrambled so they couldn’t communicate (probably would have been 95% profanities anyway) but the scramble was consistent. People were able to figure out that “lol” came out as “kek”.

Those two will enjoy their lives together. 😀
Congrats to the happy couple! My partner and I had our commitment ceremony (complete with handfasting) on 12/22, clearly it’s a great date 😁
P.s. yeah I know there’s no way that’s the actual date in-comic, humor me lol
(re: secret commentary)
I’d personally prefer it if you didn’t didn’t tie Selkieverse to Harry Potter rn, since it’s controversial and I’m an ex-fan (of HP not Selkie!)
Agreed

They stated a much milder opinion than Rowling has, if you want to be on the side of opinions.

Kek makes me think of world of Warcraft… man that was a long time ago
Yes from what I understand “kek” originated from Blizzard games. Specifically the translation from an opposing factions text message.
Yup. It translated to LOL

Aunt Marta plays Starcraft
Or more likely World of Warcraft.
