Honestly, Marta’s going about this all wrong. For protection from the fae, a band of cold-forged iron is sufficient.
Today's edition of the Secret Commentary is empty, because Dave failed to come up with something for it.

I love Aunt Marta XDDD
Time for family photos, Todd. Lots and lots of photos.
As a metalworker I have to say that it’s pretty much impossible to forge iron cold, but if you manage that shit is super strong.
Thats what the hammer and the anvil are for, leverage.
oh this is going to go badly…
Cold iron negates ALL fae magic, benificial as well. Guards are better in this case.
I call into question the very existence of ‘beneficial’ fae magic. I suspect that in those cases the malignant aspects are simply dumped on places and/or individuals that are safely out of sight.
I kind of hope that Marta and Steve have planned shenanigans to put the girls to work. It seems like the kind of thing Marta would pull on her big day, to make sure her nieces have fun, too.
Golden rings are overrated. Go for cold-forged iron instead.
It seems as though Martha and Steve have already been cursed, and Martha is trying to guard against the circumstances that would activate the curse. (Maybe Steve doesn’t know about it?)
And sure, wearing cold iron would have prevented the curse from sticking in the first place, but once it’s already been applied? Then things get trickier.
