I’m afraid I need to include a small announcement with today’s update.
Selkie updates are on a “holiday break” until January 2nd 2023, effective today.
Unfortunately, I’m air-quoting “holiday break” because this is not for rest or family or holiday related reasons. A freelance client with a rather work-intensive job, has informed me that the project needs to be completed by the end of the year. And last week showed me that to complete this project, I’m going to need to free up some time to get it finished.
I’m sorry to do this mid-storyline, this break wasn’t intended or planned for. But it’s unfortunately necessary to do. Thank you for your understanding, and I’ll see you in January, or when the freelance job is wrapped up, whichever comes first.
Hope the job goes well man!
Your story is worth waiting for, and don’t ever feel bad about needing to prioritize what keeps a roof over your head.
I wish that thing where rich people let an artist live in their house for free and make their art was still a thing, if I was rich I’d have a mansion for all my favorite webcomic artists!
Oh, and thanks for putting up that write up for Sure and Kathryn! I love the fresh approach to a more realistic fantasy world. It sucks it’s gotta go, but I understand why it had to go too. Maybe when that rich Patron moves you in you can go back to working on it…
Glad you’re getting freelance work! I hope the project goes smoothly and you get some time to enjoy the holidays. No reasonable reader is going to begrudge you some time to complete paying work; we’ll all be here when you have time to entertain us with Selkie shenanigans again!
Good luck on the job! Hope it goes well!
Good luck! 🙂
Luck and congrats on the job!
Artists have to eat. I understand this. Glad you aren’t trying to work yourself sick. I hope the job goes well.
Make that money, Dave! Once done, shower us all with all the Selkie glory you can muster! Good luck!
For those in the comment section who might miss Selkie a bit during the break, may I suggest going back and rereading the Christmas arc? Mostly just because it’s that time of year, and I ended up doing this myself recently when looking for a particular character appearance. But man, lot of stuff has happened that’s easy to forget about!
You gotta pay for rent and food! We understand… you and Selkie will be missed, but we’ll survive 😁
Do what you need to do and thank you for forewarning us, we will all be back waiting to see more of your art and Selkie’s antics.
If I don’t see you before then, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Life happens. Sorry to hear of the timing, but glad is work related and not illness related.
Congrats on the job, hope it goes well! 🙂
Good luck with your project. And don’t forget to spend some time on yourself and your familiy over the holidays.
“Why” is immaterial. If you need a break, whether it be for family, financial or just plain recharging, then you take the break! We’ll be here when you get back.
Good luck with the project! We can wait. This comic is ALWAYS worth waiting for.
Absolutely, take what time you need, Dave.
(1756 episodes archived, 16 days to go, 109 to 110 episodes a day… we can do this, people… >twitch<)
Take the time you need, no worries. Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Business is business
I think we had a rule in the house I grew up in: Do something you know you shouldn’t, there’ll be a punishment (usually measured as a way to unbalance the amount of fun the bad thing seemed like at the time). LIE about it, however, and the mostly-reasonable punishment is doubled.
Looking back, I think this was a good rule. Kids lie instinctively to try and avoid the trouble/punishment. To this day I usually think of lying as more trouble in the long run than it saves.
