I think leaving his cuss uncensored sort of adds to his personality and really, bitch is such a teenager word XD Hardly a cuss these days compared to others
I think she’s talking about her adoptive parents. She was adopted as a baby, then dumped when her parents had “real” kids with…issues. And Amanda HAS complained about them.
Yeah, it shows real progress. Some kids would never address their anger with their parents at abandoning them(and Amanda was abandoned twice, birth mother then shitty adoptive parents— to add insult to injury, when her bio-dad shows up looking to adopt, he passes right over her and adopts another.) out of fear that they could do it again if provoked. Or even without being provoked.
I think that real trust is emerging with these three.
Yeah, the fact that Todd passed her over is going to come out eventually. Amanda can understand on a mental level that he didn’t know and if he did he would have come for her, but in her mixed up emotions, its hard to not beat yourself up (and others) for that kind of baggage.
I dunno, I liked the funny symbol censorship. I think its both clever and amusing. I’m the type of person that find the bleeps in swearing funnier than the actual word (much better than awkward dub overs).
‘Course, I don’t mind the swearing either way. If its getting tedious or boring for the writer/artist, then FUCK IT!
I stopped doing the random symbol censors awhile back, did plain black bars as a censor the last few times.
The random symbols just caused me too much headache from readers that wanted to pick a fight over it or bicker in the comments about what they meant. Just stopped being worth putting up with.
This is why we can’t have nice things, trolls being petty. Personally, I’m for what you give us. And although I’m bad at spelling, I appreciate when words ARE spelled correctly so I know what is meant. Bars, stars, or letters, I’m easy with what you put down on the page, Dave.
That’s too bad; I found them quite clever and interesting, and a good way to ensure that the comic can use harsh language while still being accessible to younger readers.
Perhaps you’ll consider using the censored versions if you ever make a print version of the comic? Then you wouldn’t have to deal with all the commentary, I wouldn’t think.
I second this. I’m always fond of creative and humorous cencoring.
Also two things: firstly, even if some commenters may @%&§* about them being “wrong”, I think that’s meant as just friendly nitpicking in most cases.
Secondly, I don’t think it’s even valid to critisize made up symbols being “wrong”. As far as I know, there’s no ISO standard for symbolic swearing, so it’s up to anyone’s own interpretation anyway.
Someone needs to take him on a tour of the orphanage, kids who not only don’t have parents, they don’t have any family at all.
I’m not saying he doesn’t have a right to hurt, or to be angry at the world, but he’s got an awful big ‘my trauma is an excuse to act like a jerk’ attitude going on.
Tekh deserves to know a great deal more about Amanda and Selkie and their painful pasts than he does at present, and not from them. It may “humanize” him more, one should pardon the expression.

The marks on Amanda’s face seem to be multiplying
Tekh seems to have a plug of chaw in one cheek
It occurs to me that Tekh’s probably spent a lot of his recent time being used to getting sympathy because he’s lost his parents. That’s a natural response from people, but it can also result in a lot of his behaviour being excused or not responded to with the weight it needs. “He’s lashing out because he’s hurting; we must be understanding.”
Amanda, Selkie and the other kids from the orphanage are likely going to be the only people he’s experienced who are frank enough to consistently tell him “Yeah big whoop, that doesn’t excuse you from being a jerk.”, which is going to be bother jarring and very important for growth.
To be fair, Amanda’s adopted parents who presumedly adopted her when she was a baby and too young to remember and then years later her adoptive brothers would beat her while her parents denied it too her and then took her back too the orphanage.

Which shows how much life has coarsened over a couple of generations.
To be fair. A lot of English IS faked.
Lord, Tehk really does a great job of making me not like him. It’s like I almost started to feel something for him and then he responds like this.
I’m thinking you replied to the wrong person with that one
Sure did, lol
Faked, stolen, and misappropriated. And I quote: “Speaking English; Their our know rules!”
Amanda’s barrette isn’t glowing in this panel. I don’t know if that is an oversight, or if it’s broken.
I mean… *shrug*
“I still thinks a lots of English is fakes”
You and me both kiddo.
Yeah, not wrong on that one.
Is this the first time that Amanda has voiced some complaint about her mom?
I think she’s talking about her adoptive parents. She was adopted as a baby, then dumped when her parents had “real” kids with…issues. And Amanda HAS complained about them.
I think she really is talking about Andi, who disappeared “for a few years” but then came back for her.

Too true.
We’ll take what we get, Dave.

I don’t think he is aware of part of their class living in an orphanage. That’s probably going to be his next big realization.
