Chekovs gun… So anyways since they bring up Amanda and the humming, my mind immediately makes it significant.
“Wait, Amanda isn’t around for the lessons… is this an off screen thing where Selkie is practicing while Amanda is around? Or is Amanda very perceptive of it and this will lead to something?”
Dave did mention at one point the plan was for humans to have Earth powers that went along with the Sarnothi’s water powers.
Two theories that I will state outright, in order of my hopes:
1: Amanda is somehow receptive to the Resonance, and can ‘hear’ Selkie’s attempts. in this scenario, Amanda might start sitting the lessons and help Selkie grasp what Pohl is saying by offering her own interpretation that’s better filtered for how Selkie grew up… and if Amanda can do the fire-eyes as well? Even better!
2: Selkie is louder than she thinks when she’s literally humming to try and invoke the Resonance.
I am guessing that the ‘humming’ isn’t actually audio. Which implies Homo Sapiens can have powers too. The real question is: Is anyone currently there going to figure that out?
Well, only lately. Most of humanity’s history we’ve been earth. In the Hebrew mith man was molded out of mud, and in many other origin stories besides. I thibk even the proto-indo-european word for man is derived from earth. Yes, we eat cooked food, but until the invention of gunpowder we didn’t really have mastery over fire.
Well this is quite an unique position, until now a new young echo had been training within spiting distance from any human, specially young ones with keen sensitive ears

Probably reading too much into it.
Amanda has been there for the lessons though…

Also? The look on Tehk’s face if Amanda could light up.

I was just about to say, “Wouldn’t it be a hoot if it turned out Amanda was better with the Resonance than Selkie (poor girl)?”
But then I saw others beat me to it.
And even though I am ALL FOR Earth powers, I do think that humanity as a whole is a little more Fire than Earth.
Then everything changed when the fire nation attacked
You can have ALL my up-votes for that comment.
All of them I say!
