Is she dreaming herself as both Special Agent Awesome *and* Doctor Terrorhammer? I swear, Selkie has the best dreams when she’s trying to make sense of the upheavals in her life.
Well, apparently YouTube has them, and possibly not even bootlegged, as there’s a big (official-Disney-style) ad to the side with a list of episodes.
I’m still incensed that Disney never put out the full series on DVD. Apparently there’s 37 missing episodes of DWD, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command only ever put out the pilot, and Aladdin only released a couple of Jasmine-centric episodes in some girly collections (one titled “Jasmine’s Enchanted Tales: Journey of a Princess”).
I mean, clearly the people who got hooked on the series in 1994-1995 would, a decade later, still be preteen girls who only care about Jasmine (who, in the cartoon series, I found to be one of the most irritating characters, and I hated almost any episode that focused on her). Or the preteen girls from 1994 would be the young mothers of 2005, wanting to raise their infants on their favorite Jasmine eps?
But if Disney’s gonna argue the “raise my kids on the stuff I grew up on” factor, then they ought to consider that I’d like to raise my niephlings on the stuff I grew up on without having to bootleg the series. And that the lack of official access just makes me feel less conflicted about going behind their back to get the things that by all rights should’ve been released by now.
(Gimme a boxed set with just the Mozenrath episodes! I’d buy that.)
……anyway, sorry, rantiness is ranty. Disney Afternoon was great, Darkwing Duck was fun to grow up on, I still have songs from it stuck in my head, it helped improve my vocabulary and my sense of colorful villainous characters, and it’s apparently up on YouTube for the enjoyment of the next generation. Cheers!
YouTube: Would you like to buy access to this episode?
Well, “available to buy” is at least better than “not available at all,” but it’s not telling me how much an ep (or season) might cost. Anyway, the non-bootleg versions aren’t ad-supported-free. But they’re available!
Dr. Terrorhammer has a Girl Genius vibe to me. The mechanical arm is heartbreaking – in case there were any doubts, Selkie KNOWS that Scar is likely her biological dad.
Nah, this is more about what she wants to be.
When she first met Scar, she thought he was so COOL that she wanted to be like him. That dream is conflicting with the sudden knowledge that he was more villainous than a Saturday cartoon and did BAD things.
So her dreams of being good and awesome are conflicting with her dreams of being cool and *gulp* villainous.
As long as she remains a powerful entity in her own mind and not some damsel in dis dress, a helpless pawn… Iām cool with it, either way. Also, the āMonologingā comment has āThe Incrediblesā vibes, as well.
Ah yes, the Evil German Mad Scientist trope. Minus 5, Dave. Hint: America has more rifle-toting skin heads than Germany does, currently.
I’d watch it.

She does a quick change between panels.
Darkwing Duck reference! WOOO! š
Spotted and appreciated, Dave! š
Agreed!
Sorry, I’m too old. I have been voluntarily sans idiot box for over 30 years.
Where would one catch up on Darkwing Duck?

Wonder if this is going to lead to her mom being held captive by an evil farmer screaming “KILL HIM DIE!”
This page wins the Internet for the day. Time to get dangerous!

I like how Selkie is imagining herself both as the cool secret agent and the villain at the same time. Quoting Darkwing Duck is the cherry on top.
Interesting that her speech impediment disappears in her dreams.
So I take it Selkie has somehow watched Darkwing Duck.
Well, she was introduced to Beast Wars: Transformers so that isn’t impossible.
Is she The Crossings?
*Crowings, arg!
