So Todd has gone from “Scar, leave my daughter completely alone” to “Scar, apply your Echo knowledge to my daughter” at the drop of the hat? Quite the turn around.
I think the “leave my daughter alone” was more to not put the stress of making up for his past mistakes on her, especially as a child. Now that she already knows, it is sort of moot point. Might as well get some benefit out of all of this, especially if Pohl is supervising. Doesn’t mean that Todd still isn’t cautious about Scar wanting to have more of a relationship with Selkie.
I do sort of regret that Scar wasn’t the one to come up with the idea instead of Selkie. Not that I don’t appreciate the “out of the mouths of babes”, and the hilarity that it sometimes entails. I do wonder if Scar regrets it too, since that would have been a much better process for getting involved (even if it meant revealing things, though I have a feeling he could have just said that the technology looked familiar). Well, if wishes were fishes I suppose. (also not insulting the writing process at all, just sort of contemplating where Scar’s head is at)
I think Scar’s head is at “I *really* don’t want to dwell on the worst thing I ever did that screwed up the best thing I didn’t even know I had any more than my conscience keeps reminding me” and that’s why he’s not done much thinking about the damper gadget.
I’m really hoping that Pohl and Scar can put their differences in training-backgrounds/teachings aside, and combine their knowledge to help Selkie. They both seem to have extensive knowledge of Resonance… both personal usage, and tech-based manipulation (Pohl made household devices to even help his wife, who is not an echo, if I remember correctly. Her craft knives, the aquarium equipment, the water-blob levitator so she can interact with the babies outside of the tank)
Wait, I mean, didn’t Scar already know Selkie had been suppressed by a similar device? Kinda feel like if he did, he would have already been working on a way to fix that.
pretty sure selkie had worn the suppressor thing longer than anyone had ever had any dealings with in the past. so completely uncharted territory with most assuming it run that long would have just premanently dampened her ability.
(curious side note, that surpressor things exist and the concept of suppressed into not being an echo exists, I wonder if the sarnothi legal code has a sort of “death of echoness” sentencing that can be empossed on echos? if such a concept does exist, it would help explain why no one even was looking for a fix)
do think phol was a bit surprised she could even do the glowly eye thing. so either selkie is just that off the chart in power or they over estimated what the suppressor thing could do.
This explains why Plo Quar overshot so badly when making Selkie’s bow: she was essentially copy-pasting Scar’s device! Though I do wonder, since she went to such lengths to hide Selkie’s power, is it truly a good idea to flush them out again?
Yeah I’m sitting on the fence between risking the cultural servitude that’s subtext to there power and she probably should be able to blast those who abuse her sooo yeah hard call.
Dave, Really you used the term purse poodle in a comic? That children will read? I thought those kinds of insults were reserved for bar brawls at 2:00am? And Pohl didn’t come out swinging.
Is Todd gonna need a new face for that?
That door in the third panel looks just about right for Alice to enter Wonderland.
I think the creator of El Goonish Shive goes overboard in making sure everything’s to scale in every panel, but it amuses me when I spot the exact opposite technique (guesstimation) in background elements.
Me-ow!
Catty Pohl is hilarious.

And to top it all off, Pohl’s wearing pink again.
Aw, dammit, stupid reply bug hit again.

I don’t think it’s a copy. I think it’s literally the same thing yanked out of the collar and tied into a bow

BEST Todd line ever!
Best Pohl comeback, too. 🙂
Last panel: “innefficiencies” is a typo. There should only be one “n”.

He’s referencing Karens. Not sure what you mean by purse poodle, but I’m fairly certain Todd is referring to the dog.
Did… they just come up with a freaking psi-power amplifier? That is going to have ripple effects.
