I said something in middle school, that haunted me for most of a decade.
I think I recognize the Red haired guy from the last time I was in the Gillie Forest. Well, he reminds me of that guy anyway. That could change if he has a name.
I really feel bad for Selkie, but it’s all part and parcel of learning your place in the world. She has a real Dad who’s an assistant partner in an Architectural firm, and an absent Mom who’s a fugitive hunted by her own people, is essentially “Che Guevara cross Super Woman” who wrestles gorillas. What are ya gonna do? That’s a tough act to follow. (I think Dave said she’s a gorilla fighter?)
I am going to put this on the fact the current principle in an agent and not a proper early childhood educator. So they handled a breech of policy like you would in an office (AKA badly)
This didn’t occur to me at first, but I think maybe the best come back for Selkie and/or Keisha here would be to say “Yeah. So?” That would throw the boys off balance. I can imagine one boy saying “Then they really are?” And the other “Wait. They don’t care if we know?!?!” The seed of doubt has been planted: Does it really matter?
Then one of the other kids asks “You aren’t really. Are you?” And they say “Nah! We were just messing with them.”
And again, the seed has been planted. Does it really matter to ME what sexual attraction or gender orientation another person has? And, unless I am sexually attracted to a person and want to start a relationship with them, the answer is no.
I does get old fast. It doesn’t mean they stop anytime soon. Or at all.
oh ghod.
Grade school rumors.. the internet meme of personal conversation.. Am glad THAT part of my life is over..

Don’t let Yellow Coat and Anime Hair get you down.
Don’t let that guy get you down! His hair doesn’t.
Yes… The only thing proven to faster than the Speed of Light, Gossip. 🙂
…to go faster than the Speed of Light. (Freaking Typos).
Those kids look too old to be harassing elementary schoolers.
The types of kids who get their kicks bullying others never outgrow harassing people who they deem will not put up a fight.
Example A for why the school handled this horribly.
SO AGREED. They really should have checked for names and what-not beforehand and spoken with Selkie privately.

Let’s be honest, screwing up is basically what schools do.
The arch-villianess’s tragic backstory of being bullied in school for being different begins…

That would be both awesome and probably entirely too complex for an 8 year old to come up with, sadly.
This would be the same if Selkie was thought to have a boy crush, at my school at this age any hint of romantic feelings were grounds for teasing.
