ok, te fahns freaking out makes me wonder what *other* echo´s have done in the past….then again, maybe its merely the rep of selkies mom, or jin´sorai in general.
….uhm, DO the other ‘guppies’ know about selkies mom? i don´t remember… but it would be *awesome* to see their reactions. i mean, on the one hand the sar´teri did their damnest to brand her as traitor, on the other the refugees might see her as their hero for fighting the opressors
Well lets remember that Jin’Sorai clan wasnt exactly an innocent victim of evil regime, or atleast their leaders vere not exactly nice. Using personal tragedy to gather political support and using literal hate speech against humans to rally the people to seize political power.
Fact that clan as a whole have a reputation of being “temperamental” plus the flashback from the mentioned “fishers incident” I would not be suprised that Sarnothi history have well documented stories of Jin’sorai echoes going on bloody revenge/rampage after being “insulted” or “provoked”. So Te Fahn freak out about Selkie going on rampage might not be exaggeration from her point of view.
Then again I might be biased as I consider Jin’sorai in this story as sort of asshole victims of their own political coup going bad.
About Selkie mom I think its top secret information and the others dont know as it would put her in danger. Remeber her mother is considered by some to be war criminal and while some of the refugees might consider her a hero other wont share that view.
The group of kids who were prepping to live among human society (the “guppies”) are unaware of the connection between Selkie and Plo Quar. Not that Selkie’s been very good about keeping such things to herself, though…
The art on this one is amazing Dave. I’ve recently been diving in the archives, and esp. comparing this to the first chapter – but even on its own, this is incredible!
Looking at Selkie’s mouth in frame(?) 3, I noticed that her lower jaw is extended from her skin just a bit. Does this mean that Sarnothi have the ability to extend their mouth similar to sharks? Don’t know if that was the intention or just trying to highlight her fangs.
I mean, Selkie technically is a “Super” in Saronthi standards, and Supers aren’t always good guys, so Te Fahn’s fears kinda make sense.
Interesting note here is that “Nightmare Selkie” is referring to Te Fahn by her species subclass, and not her name, so I think it is ancestral stereotypes from clan discrimination plus real Selkie’s evilz causing Te Fahn to freakout here.
Now, now Te Fahn. When death comes on periwinkle wings to sing the eternal song of fire and blood, you know she’ll have an army of robots marching before her and a league of henchmen at her beck and call. She’s going to be a lot scarier than that.
Lol. Someone should warn Selkie she’s scaring Te Fahn. I wonder what she’d think of that though- she’s used to her supervillain shtick and so are the other kids used to taking it as a joke. Realizing someone’s actually upset by it would simultaneously be flattering and sobering, I expect.
Dropping by to tell you that that five shots sequence is really, really well drawn. Light years above the art style you normally employ. You’ve really grown as an author.
I assume it took much more time to draw then normal, but I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing rarer updates, if it meant we’d get that more often.
Heh selkie is terrifying.

I’m pretty sure Mad Jin’Sorai Echo has a similar place in Sarnothi culture as Mad German Scientist has in ours.

That’s one way to get your prospective sweetie to hug you.
And that’s how George gets huggies.

That’s me having not-enough practice drawing lips and gums.
Just say it’s all part of Te Fahn’s nightmare imagery.

This is so beautiful on many levels! <3
Dang, Selkie is what that crazy cat lady becomes if she had magic powers. Too much time planning revenge that even basic hygiene goes out the window.

I’m getting some Rise of the Tomb Raider Baba Yaga vibes here.
Is anyone else thinking of early Feral from SFP?
Please tell me Tel’Dora aren’t prophetic…

The old world passes away; together, we shall forge a new one in fire and blood!”
The “oh god I angered and echo” panic atttack nightmare Selkie is giving me fsome real “Apocalypse circa 90s X-Men cartoon” vibe my dude.
Good god. The art in that top half is AMAZING!!!!
