Just a pre-emptive heads up, next week’s updates may be a bit spotty due to some traveling I’ll be doing. Will be taking a laptop with me, but just in case things go wonky, I want to say something in advance.
HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

*cringe* *warning signals*
*shields up* *danger imminent*
yep, he´s definitely up to something….possibly something he´s planned with amanda.
either that, or the real tehk has been replaced by a pod person
He got a talking to, it seems.
Nah, I think he just wants to use Selkie for her Echo powers.
Either that or he’s trying to look good in front of an adult and he’ll be surly again in no time as soon as she leaves the room.
Don’t tell me the kid is turning into a moocher, because he found out Selkie is an Echo.
This is a thing that kids do when they know another kid has money/smarts/connections/something they want. Heck, adults do this too and it’s just as annoying 15 years ago as it is now.
I believe so.
I’m still hoping it’s a Reevaluation. e.g. Maybe Echoes aren’t just members of their clan, they ARE their clan. Archetypical, even. Perhaps making fun of a singular Jin’Sorai for Jin’Sorai behaviour is ‘just friendly nudgings’, but mocking a Jin’Sorai Echo for being an Echo is…. wrong.
Or maybe mocking a person who might Actually have echo powers, because they can flame/fuse/fire whatever/sand/clay into building materials for houses, or they can build a sword that can carve through solid rock.
I would bring them fresh fruit and Oreos. Not to brown nose, but to let them know I’m a good anechoic citizen, with no ax to grind. … Even if they are purple. (Er,… Periwinkle)
Oh great, he better not be in cahoots with Amanda already.
As a former bullied kid, there is little more unsettling than a usual bully suddenly being nice. Good rarely comes of it.
^
Yep.
“there is little more unsettling”
Heck, that is outright terrifying! As the smallest guy in the elementary school, I was often a target. Somebully would start making nice, and I’d be looking for escape routes, and where his minions were.
I can name THAT tune. Oy.
I wouldn’t really call Tehk a bully, though. Selkie has been just as much a dick to Tekh as the reverse.
Seriously? I checked back through juat to be sure I wasn’t misremembering. Tekh has provoked her at every encounter from the first one. Several times by commenting on aomething she has said in a conversation that did not involve him. Most of Selkie’s counters have literally been her telling him to stop calling her a spy or making fun of her for being a “drama queen” or jin’sorai. She may be reacting in frustration, but she isn’t eh one who started any of it – and persisted it.
I refer you to https://selkiecomic.com/comic/selkie1136/
She’s effectively the instigator for 5-10 comics. She had every opportunity to walk away, as Tehk was trying to, and she declined to do so.
If anyone, the instigator there is Todd (see the comic 2 before, him asking her what they’re saying). Then Tekh tells her spying is rude. She claims she wasn’t spying, and after repeated “hmphs” to her pleading, THEN she teases him. I’d hardly say that qualifies as her “instigating” anything.
Dave, extra nice art on this page. It looks like your muse is inspiring your hands to make Tehk extra important. Love the hair and scarf in the last panel, Kudos to you, (or Payday, Reeses’ Cups, etc. … Name your poison)
There’s a quote that goes something like, “When disreputable people start behaving respectably… watch out!”
I’m thinking that Selkie should be very careful walking through doorways, or reasonable equivalent.
