Clearly Tony hasn’t met his Meme yet, or know where she lives.
given the little crush Tony has on Selkie, which seems very much a Chekhov’s gun.
I’m going to guess Tony isn’t going to be moving very far
Meme probably lives local, and the cops were looking in the wrong places, or she will move with Tony into the house Tony’s parents owned, which has been vacant while they are in prison.
Would be a good excuse for Tony to reveal his feelings for Selkie though. I wonder what angle Dave will take with this new addition to the plot.
The problem is that you used the wrong accents. The grave and circumflex accents, you can typically ignore, but the acute accent means “this is another syllable”.
His parents appear to have made unethical choices which landed them in prison. It doesn’t mean they were bad parents. Criminals can be good people to their family (and the general population when they aren’t doing crime). His behavior could be a result of many other factors (though the trauma of being separated from this folks would totally be on the top of the list).
I still think he’s going to tell Selkie he has feelings for her or reveal something else super personal that involves the two of them. Why else would George be teasing him like that?
I wonder if Tony and his family might’ve traveled to the US from France or another French-speaking country. So if that’s the case, then his mémé could be living in his country of origin…which would mean Tony going to live with her more or less means his exit from the story (sans electronic communication). Makes for an interesting story arc, gives Tony some character development, but also pares down the supporting cast a tiny bit without having him just pull a Judy Winslow (not that I think Dave would be that lazy with his writing or characters to begin with).
She *might* live somewhere relatively close by but if that were the case I feel like the authorities would’ve found her a lot sooner. We don’t know how long Tony’s been at the orphanage but it’s at least been 8-9 months since that’s how much time has passed in-comic since the strip started.
I meant to say this last time. I really suspected Tony here to turn out to really be an undercover space alien agent studying humans and by extension, Sarnothi.
Ahhhh…. you know that kind of also explains why he’s kind of uh. An act-out kind of kid. Not that every kid here doesn’t have reasons for being difficult sometimes. But that’s…. really rough.

I’m gonna guess that Tony will still be local, but will be attending a different school in the Calumet school district.
Mostly I think “Goodbye forever” being followed up with “Turns out I was completely mistaken” doesn’t work well with this sort of storytelling.
Makes me wonder about Hamud if Tony had been there for so long…
Mémé means grandma, for those who don’t know and don’t want to look it up themselves.
Yep, that was what I called my great-grandmother. I picked it up from some cousins, tho I don’t remember that, I just always called her by it.
Thank you! Google Translate said it was “Same” which of course made no sense.

“Meme” = one syllable.
“Mémé” = two syllables.
Well that explains his attitude. His parents weren’t the best people.

Okay, this is not going to the direction I thought, AT ALL. I love it. And I’m relieved he’s not running away.

His daddy is Banksy 😆
